Sara Ramirez as Ursula
enough said.
"it says on wikipedia that kerry butler "is widely considered to be a front-runner to be cast in the upcoming Broadway production of Disney's The Little Mermaid because of her part in the workshops done for the show, which will premiere Off-Broadway in Denver and then move to Broadway sometime in 2007 or 2008" (a direct quote). "
You do know that anyone can go on to Wikipedia and write whatever they choose, right? I'd hardly call it a reliable source for anything.

Me too!
"For Eric, it should be someone HEARTY in an acting sense - not just a pretty boy.
I think Matt Cavenaugh would actually be good in this role. He's grounded enough, but still has the pretty boy thing going for him."
But can he act?
Eden Espinosa and Patti LuPone could, but Megan Mullaly and Ashley Brown(if she wasn't doing Mary Poopins, so really Tina M.)should.
I want Lea Salonga as Ariel!

Eden should definitely be in this production.
I don't think Harvey has any sort of chance to be in this because Ursula isn't a part aimed for comedy. This is Disney. Everything has to be serious (just like the movie) because there will be little kids there who want to see just what they saw in the movie.

Jennie Kwan would probably be lovely as Ariel. I bet she'd look fierce with red hair, too. Is she still playing Christmas Eve in Avenue Q in Vegas? I wonder if they'd go with someone who isn't caucasian for the role.
She'd be stunning as Elphaba, also.

Jennie Kwan would be a great Ariel.
Diana Degarmo would be awesome, too, I think.
to those saying Kerry Butler is too old obviously haven't seen her on stage recently cause she still looks like a child.

Diana Degarmo is a little bit too old to play Ariel...She could play Ursuala, though.
Diana DeGarmo is too OLD to play Ariel? She's 19, I think. She's much younger than Kerry Butler.

Oops, sorry. From the pictures on Yahoo Images she looks 40.

I third the request for information on the demo.
Diana DeGarmo is probably the most age-appropriate and best suggestion that this thread has produced. She would be inspired casting!
Speaking of Christmas Eve's....how about Ann Sanders?

I dunno how this works in Disney Theatrical, but at Disneyland your face has to be approved by the powers that be in order to represent one of the world famous animated faces of Disney. I don't know if there is anyone in charge of making sure that those who play the characters on the Broadway stage uphold the same image as the movie, but I wouldn't be surprised. What I mean is, there is of course a director but I wonder if there is like a "Disney image" person who has to approve the choice? I dunno. All I know is that Ashley Brown would TOTALLY be approved to play Belle and Mary Poppins at Disneyland, so that casting makes a lot of sense. The casting of Toni Braxton gives me hope that we could see someone like Lea Salonga playing a princess other than Mulan though, ya know? (Ooo I just realized the potential of Lea returning to Broadway with THAT musical tho! I also just realized I don't want to admit that Lea is a lot older than these princesses too. And yes I do realize Mulan is not a princess.)

Kerry Butler is the perfect Ariel. She may be in her mid-30s, but she can still pull off 16 years old. I mean, come on... Penny Pingleton? Dedee Truitt? She can definitely pull off being a teenager. Plus, she has that crisp, clear Disney-esque singing voice that they are looking for. And she can easily belt up to an E, as the audition notice says Ariel must do.

I think she could definitely pull off being that young.

Everytime I watch the movie I think--"Wouldn't Elaine Paige have been great as Ursula?" I think she can do scary and crazy...
<----(see what I mean) I don't think she would ever consider doing anything Disney(unfortunately)and I'm not sure she wants to do another show--so it's just my girlish dream to see her do it.
And yet another request about a demo of the songs---pretty please?
I was on New Jersey Transit yesterday going into NYC and heard two women (mid 20's) talking about their friend who worked at Dinsey World and her audition for the Little Mermaid on Broadway. This of course peaked my interest and I asked them if they could elaborate since I am a broadway fan. They explained that the majority of people auditioning for Ariel have played her in Disneyworld. Granted these could be prelimary casting sessions but I thought it was an interesting little tidbit.

Mr. Midwest, Avenue Q closed in Vegas.
Austin Milller was in the Hairspray tour.
How did people get these demo CDs?
Tina Maddigan as a mermaid? She's have to be called the girl with crimson hair! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
"Mr. Midwest, Avenue Q closed in Vegas."
Thanks, I wasn't aware.
Did anyone see Jennie in the tour of Miss Saigon, or in Bare, or as Jasmine in Aladdin at Disney's California Adventure?
