And if he can sing, I think Brandon Routh would be a great Eric, looks-wise.

I really wasn't too impressed with Skinner on the demo. She wasn't menacing at all. She was barely even sassy.

However, I saw her perform Poor Unfortunate Souls in the show On the Record... Amazing! It was great! I think she would be a great Ursula.

hi all im new! i joined cuz i saw this discussion.
anyhoo...iv heard the demo...and I strongly believe kerry butler should not play ariel! I can understand why some would cast her...and I do believe she is talented...but I believe she is much more a character actress (and though her characters are usually young and squeaky voiced...) I found her too harsh as ariel. Her acting was just too big for me and she was not relateble. I did not think she sounded great either...her voice just is not beautiful enough though young and bright. She just is not ariel to me. I would like an unknown...though that does not matter too much...just as long as its not a name theyre hoping will sell the show...I hope she is young too. I liked the girl who played belle (ashley brown?) who a few mentioned...she has a VERY pretty voice and though her look is not perfect for it...the voice and that ability to make the audience love you is what matters to me. Im not sure she is my first choice but I would certainly be happy.. Give us a great singer, a young pretty girl, and a girl we can love and all want to be!

Ursula on the demo had a good voice though I agree her acting was not to my liking. I want Ursula to be very fat though a diva and confident in herself! She needs to be oddly sexy, a great actress, a great singer, and still get the audience (or at least the adults) to like her a little bit...though they know they shouldnt. I can see harvey as it...but I would like someone with a better and bigger voice...I dont think harvey should open the show as it...maybe when tickets run low he could join as a booster.

Sebastain could be played by wayne brady I suppose....but i would like as close the man in the film as possible...maybe a little older and with an authentic accent.

flounder-i think should be a fat little boy with a scratchy lowish (not after puberty! like under 10!) voice...i think that would be adorable

eric-needs to be agreat singer...gavin creel sounds good...good boyish quality....he cant seem too jerky...i dont think this role will be hard to cast...just keep him good looking!

who will play the father??? i never enjoyed seeing such an old man with his shirt off even though he is rather buff....lol

o and that bird....no idea! how bout bill cosby...lol just joking

Scarlett Pomers. Supposedly, she is a singer and she definitely looks the part. She was on the show REBA and in ERIN BROCKOVICH. She just struck me when I saw her on this show this morning.

Tina Maddigan as Ariel would be great as would Cheyenne Jackson as Eric. If Harvey was Ursula...oh dear it would be interesting.

I would like Harvey to be Ursula, but I don't think it will happen. Remember this is a mainstream show! I don't think tourists would apprecate it, but Hairpray is a hit. So maybe they will consider a man.

As much as I love Kerry Butler and think she sounds some what similar to Ariel, I think her voice gives Ariel a younger feel. While Ariel is only 16, I believe she is a mature teenager and should have a more mature voice. (Less of a girl and more of a young woman.)

What about Sutton Foster? Has she been mentioned at all? She is flawless - what cant she do? And I think she does sound similar to the original voice.

And how ironic would it be for her take Ariel and Gavin Creel to take Eric? They make a good duo.

And then Ursula needs to be powerful and still somewhat sexy. What about Lillias White?

All I know is if they cast Christy Carlson Romano (sp?) as Ariel...there is going to be hell to pay. I would love to see Mara Davi from a Chorus Line play this part...she has an incredible voice.

Ros Ryan as Ursula is a must.

Matthew Morrison as Eric would be great but doubt it will happen.

Sutton Foster looks a little bit too old to play Ariel.

Kathy Bier as Ursula. I think she's got the sass and the voice... even if she may appear to be a little too young.
