Yeah, Kerry was considered too old, and probably wanted more than Broadway minimum.

I know...I'm just on my knees now praying Sherie Rene Scott gets Ursula like in the rumors!

No they can't find a good looking guy who can sing in NYC.
(who will work for minimum)
They are so cheap.

Hes the leading male in a major broadway production produced by disney. Everyone knows the shows gonna bring in loads of cash. Its been so speculated and hyped over the years that now that its finally in the works, word of mouth has caused mass excitment and curiosity regarding the show. Moral of the sotry, he shouldnt have to work for dirt cheap.

Can anyone comfirm the rumor on Sherie and Norman, as Ursela and Triton.
I'll have them clawing at eachother, like drag queens at a wig sale"

Ben Hartley is in it. He was last seen in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the Follies concert, and a BUNCH of other stuff. He is fabulous! The cast is using heelies to do alot of the underwater effects. There isn't as much "flying" as everyone assumes.

Sherie Renee Scott would be a wonderful Ursula!! But apart from that, may I ask politely... WHY ARE THEY MAKING A MUSICAL??????
I seriously don't see the big deal with The Little Mermaid. As a child, it always rather annoyed me. I wasn't and still am not fond of it. I can't help but imagine it looking ridiculous onstage. Except for Ursula (I love villians), I really think the whole story is pointless.
Although... I will give myself an escape here. I never would have thought Lion King would have been good. It would have annoyed me too, although for different reasons because I loved that movie. And it was fantastic. It completely surprised me. Completely surpassed my high expectations.
So I'll just say... I'm a little curious as to how this whole thing will go over.

A friend of mine said they were watching the NY news and saw that Kerry butler was confirmed for Ariel and said that hey showed her saying she was really excited to get started! I don't know if they are telling the truth or not, but I am going to keep asking them about it...I HOPE THEY ARE TELLING THE TRUTH!!!

It's insane how closed-mouthed Disney is keeping this. Anyone know if there's a planned press junket or anything?

This show makes me happy I live in Denver :)
I think it's kind of ridiculous that Disney is trying to keep the cast secret. Honestly, what's the big deal!

I really don't care what people say, I am still voting for Kerry Butler to be Ariel. In my opinion, shes the character all over (besides Jodi Benson)Although I keep reading that Sierra Boggess is being considered, I'm not going to believe anything UNTIL the casting for the show is announced soon. Which I think might be later this month or early March. Anyonce know?

At this point, you've got to know that the major players have been seen, approved, offers made, unsigned contracts out, rumors flying, etc.etc....
When the agreements are finalized...Disney will go public...that's about it. It's tough to keep speculations down...but things do happen in the final hours.

I had always supported Kerry Butler playing this role because I felt like her voice was a nice fit for Ariel. Then I heard her sing it at a workshop, and I was forced to change my mind. She attempted to sound too young, and she was all nasally (nothing new, really), and it was just NOT good.
"Goodness is rewarded. Hope is guaranteed. Laughter builds strong bones. Right will intercede. Things you've said I often find I need, indeed. I see the world through your eyes. What's black and white is colorized. The knowledge you most dearly prized I'm eager to employ. You said that life has infinite joys."

I agree with magic8ball. I thought Kerry would be an amazing Ariel, then I listened to the workshop and realized she was very wrong. I'm very excited for Sierra Boggess though and she does have the part, she even changed her myspace to a little mermaid background.

From what I've heard Kerry Butler sing, she always sounds that way..I don't think she was forcing anything..and to me she sounded just like Jodi benson. I really want Disney to hurry up and put all the rumors to rest!

What about Cheyenne Jackson as eric? I think he would be great....
The thing I am most excited about is the Scenic Design by George Tsypin.. the man is brillant, and should be able to pull this feat off...

Sierra's myspace says she is in New York from 2/20 - 2/24. I heard that Disney was going to announce the cast from the Lunt-Fontanne. Perhaps that's why she's there now?
