What about Harvey as Ursula?
A:He has experience in drag
B:He'd freak out the little kids
C:The adults would love him

Emily DID read for Ursula quite a few times. It seems she won't be continuing with the production as it progresses, though.

Such a shame, too. She tore the SH*T out "Poor Unfortunate Souls" in On the Record.

"Now, seeeeeng!" :)

I actually think out of all the 'possible' Ariels mentioned, Grove would be the best choice. She's fresh faced and innocent looking.

Nathan lane would be horrible as Ursula - i think Harvey would be better - you need a deep voice

Emily could really let loose.

Jessica Grove, as I said before and said as well, would be superb in the role. She is young, fresh faced, she is relatively unknown but has s mall following and much respect among those who have seen her work and worked with her, she is a true triple threat.. and that soaring soprano of hers alone is simply stunning, and she is such a beautiful girl.

I need a new copy of that Wizard of Oz cast recording. One of the things I collect is Oz cast recordings -- and I wore out my Grove-Oz CD listening to her Over The Rainbow repeatedly. She was 15 when she started that production and 16 when she took it on tour and recorded the album.. her voice was gorgeous then and won me over from the start and she has only matured as an actress and vocalist since. Even in a show wherw the cast was obviously directed to perform with the broads trokes of children's theatre (a WRONga pproch I might add), Grove's inate ability managed to shine through and rise above the direction and badly contrived 90 minute edition of the script.

she is def. one of the best Dorothys...

I got the CD more for Eartha Kitt and her jitterbug - the WWW has always been my favorite character so I was happy Kitt was playing her AND got a song...

I think Harvey as Ursula would be great, if they wrote it with the intention of a deep-voice man playing the part. He can get his voice pretty low.

Ariel: Kerry Butler
Eric: Gavin Creel or David Elder
King Titan: John Cullum???
Sebastian: Wayne Brady
Scuttle: Dunno.
Flounder: Get the kid from Boy From Oz, maybe (did Flounder have a childish voice, I forgot...if not maybe a teenage guy)

no.. Ariel - Jessica Grove.

i still agree -

As for wayne brady as sebastian, perhaps they should just use an actor from the carribbean...

I think a man should play Ursula - i mean, the spanish, french, and american ursula's are all really good - but they are old and a man would just make it hilarious...(plus, move aside Elphaba - Ursula will be painted purple)

Kerry Butler or Jessica Grove?

I think they should both do it at some point in time.

How much you wanna bet that they will cast Bernadette Peters as Ursula?

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Christy Romano should be cast as Ariel if we get to watch her drown 8 times a week.

Ick... I just thought of something more horrifying than Christy Romano as Ariel...
What if they got Hilary Duff? (no offense to her fans, but...)

That much aside, Harvey would be an amazing Ursula I think. And I like Kerry Butler for Ariel.

I could see Susan Egan in the role. I didn't read the thread so I apologize if someone suggested it.

I have no opinions on if I like this as a show or not - I just like to play director and cast people. :)

I think Kerry Butler would be wonderful and as for Wayne Brady I think he would be flawless, that man is genius :)

I saw Ashley Brown in On the Record...and I think she would make a fabulous Ariel. However I havent heard much of her reading for the part. Also Emily skinner..but apparently shes out too. xoxo

I would have never pictured a male as Ursula, but at the mention of Nathan and Harvey, I think that would be great (and I'm a Little Mermaid purist. When it first came out, I was 8 and saw it ten times in the theatre. I lost track of how many times I watched it after 143. Yes, I'm a total loser :)).

I love the idea of Kerry as Ariel. If you look at some of her pictures, she has some of Ariel's features (specificlly her jaw). You add a red wig, and she would be almost identical.

Sutton would be great vocally, but I think she's too tall for Disney's taste. At Walt Disnay World, their Ariels are 5'4" - 5'6" for meet-and-greets and 5'2" - 5'4" for Fantasmic and the Voyage show. The want her to be much smaller than Eric, and I don't think there are too many fresh-faced young guys that could hover over Sutton.

I'm very much against Angela Christinson (or whatever her name is), but Diana Kaarina would be interesting. Jessica-Snow Wilson, Christeena Michelle Riggs, Sarah Uriarte-Berry, Jessica Boevers would all be nice to.
