Little Night Music tonight#1

Anyone else going? Is there possibly a group getting together before? In from out-of-town and just curious.

I do have to say that seeing this AND Patti's rant Saturday night put this trip WAY up there!

I'm really looking forward to this.

Don't forget they changed the location from the Nokia to Studio 54 and it's 7:30 not 8.

For anyone going tonight:

According to the NY Times, it will not be a staged reading. It's a literal concert reading.

To me a concert reading means that the orchestra is onstage, that each actor has a music stand and a chair, and that they sit and they sing,” Mr. Ellis said before beginning a hurried few days of catch-as-catch-can rehearsals. “No costumes. No exits and entrances. You’re really there to listen to the music, to hear the score.

I hope some weren't expecting Encores! style.

I'm expecting Vanessa Redgrave to do "Liaisons" as if it were Shakespeare.

I'm expecting Natasha Richardson to do "You Must Meet My Wife" and "Send in the Clowns" gorgeously.

And I'm expecting Christine Baranski to be better than she was in Follies.

And I'm expecting the music to be glorious.

That's all.

While I love and adore Christine Barranski as a comedic actress, she really disappointed me in both Follies and Mame...her singing was just not up to par.

She ought to be able to sing well enough for "Every Day a Little Death" and "Weekend in the Country." Charlotte fits her comedic (and deadpan) talents much better than Mame or Carlotta.

I don't know Kendra Kassebaum or Jill Paice, who took over for Benanti. Anyone a fan of either?

Jill Paice is pretty cute, and while I found her enjoyable enough in Curtains she...lacks something for me.

Jill Paice is about as talented and entertaining as a piece of wood.

I am not on the Paice bandwagon either. while I enjoyed her in curtains she just doesnt do it for me. Its a shame Benanti had to pull out. Kendra however was a terrific Galinda when I saw the Wicked tour with SJB a few years ago. I cant wait for reviews!
