According to the NY Times, it will not be a staged reading. It's a literal concert reading.
To me a concert reading means that the orchestra is onstage, that each actor has a music stand and a chair, and that they sit and they sing,” Mr. Ellis said before beginning a hurried few days of catch-as-catch-can rehearsals. “No costumes. No exits and entrances. You’re really there to listen to the music, to hear the score.
While I love and adore Christine Barranski as a comedic actress, she really disappointed me in both Follies and Mame...her singing was just not up to par.
She ought to be able to sing well enough for "Every Day a Little Death" and "Weekend in the Country." Charlotte fits her comedic (and deadpan) talents much better than Mame or Carlotta.
Jill Paice is pretty cute, and while I found her enjoyable enough in Curtains she...lacks something for me.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

I am not on the Paice bandwagon either. while I enjoyed her in curtains she just doesnt do it for me. Its a shame Benanti had to pull out. Kendra however was a terrific Galinda when I saw the Wicked tour with SJB a few years ago. I cant wait for reviews!
<------ Me and my friends with patti Lupone at my friends afterparty for her concert with audra mcdonald during the summer of 2007.
