Does anyone know-is this a live recording or studio tracks of the songs she is performing?
Thanks all.

Thanks Dein Herr-and thanks for the prompt reply.
It is quite wonderful
She sounded live. She must have recorded it live plus retakes and voila finish product!
I love love What Makes a Man a Man. I never realize that the lyrics was soo touching until I listened to it several times!
here it is...
What Makes a Man a Man by Charles Aznavour
My mum and I we live alone
A great apartment is our home
In Fairhome Towers
I have to keep me company
Two dogs, a cat, a parakeet
Some plants and flowers
I help my mother with the chores
I wash, she dries, I do the floors
We work together
I shop and cook and sow a bit
Though mum does too I must admit
I do it better
At night I work in a strange bar
Impersonating every star
I'm quite deceiving
The customers come in with doubt
And wonder what I'm all about
But leave believing
I do a very special show
Where I am nude from head to toe
After stripteasing
Each night the men look so surprised
I change my sex before their eyes
Tell me if you can
What makes a man a man
At 3 o'clock or so I meet
With friends to have a bite to eat
And conversation
We love to empty out our hearts
With every subject from the arts
To liberation
We love to pull apart someone
And spread some gossip just for fun
Or start a rumour
We let our hair down, so to speak
And mock ourselves with tongue-in-cheek
And inside humour
So many times we have to pay
For having fun and being gay
It's not amusing
There's always those that spoil our games
By finding fault and calling names
Always accusing
They draw attention to themselves
At the expense of someone else
It's so confusing
Yet they make fun of how I talk
And imitate the way I walk
Tell me if you can
What makes a man a man
My masquerade comes to an end
And I go home to bed again
Alone and friendless
I close my eyes, I think of him
I fantasise what might have been
My dreams are endless
We love each other but it seems
The love is only in my dreams
It's so one sided
But in this life I must confess
The search for love and hapiness
Is unrequited
I ask myself what I have got
Of what I am and what I'm not
What have I given
The answers come from those who make
The rules that some of us must break
Just to keep living
I know my life is not a crime
I'm just a victim of my time
I stand defenceless
Nobody has the right to be
The judge of what is right for me
Tell me if you can
What make a man a man
Tell me if you can
Tell me if you can
Tell me if you can
What makes a man a man
My friend is going for the second time tonight and I told him the CD was available. He said he really hoped they would record the actual show live. I wonder if there is any plan to do so or if this recording is all they plan to do. And are they going to release it. I don't see it anywhere for sale.
She has a good association with Showtime. And if you read back on her official site you will find out that a taping of the show has been in discussion. But not necessarily the Palace engagement.
I didn't see that but I saw that the CD is being sold exclusively at the theater and is the OBCR for the show. I noticed that all items sold at the Palace are listed on her website except the CD.
edit: I read some more and they are planning to sell all of the merch on her website.
I think I read that the CD won't be available anywhere else until February.
I think I had read that about the cd too. Just in time to sell with her 2009 tour?
Is she touring the show? I didn't read everything on the site so I may have missed that.
She has been touring for the last two years and the first stop after Broadway is Virginia. Oops.. first Philadelphia.. then Virginia.
Was it this show? She was here when I was in NYC so I missed her.
Except for one engagement in the last year.. it has been her and the boys. Only difference is she now has added the palace number and encores with the Christmas song. If you are interested go on Jim Carusos website ( google it) and find his flickr link. There are pictures there that go back through most of the tour. Also.. oneof her band members blogs from the road. His name is Rick Cutler and I believe his web page is humanrick.com. You have to click on the journal link.

Transmitting From NYC...
Last night was the opening of a month-long run we're doing at the Palace Theatre here. I must say that it's really nice to just head home & not to have to wait for everyone to finish packing up & make their way to the bus to the hotel.
I thought the show went really well with Liza being in amazing form. From the few reviews I've read so far, it seems as though there's some agreement there. Liza's really an amazing performer....worth every penny for any aspiring singer or actor. There's much to learn from someone with such a depth of experience from so many angles. Her energy, dedication & stamina are second to none. I usually find things to report on that are more surrounding the show than the show itself but, here, I must give major props to our boss. She's really something!
OK...here's a little additional story coming more from my usual place of behind-the-scenes reporting: On Tuesday, after our dress rehearsal, I made my way down to the band dressing room (more of a locker room, really) to change & who should come walking out of the bathroom but Joe Pesci! It was fun to say hi & shake his hand. Luckily I was fully clothed!
It's a very busy month for me including some free-lance studio things as well as being in charge of moving my 85 year-old mom from upstate NY to NYC. Almost all of my days off are filled! It'll be nice to relax a bit at the end of Dec.
Coming in Jan: The start of recording for my 2nd CD. There'll definitely be much more news about that in 2009."

I have to reiterate how wonderful her latest recording is! The energy on this record is amazing and her vocals are beautiful. I do wish they would have included the dialogue from the show ala Lorna's album but it's a great preservation of the show!
edit: I think it was Nov. 2005. I was in New York that month when she was here. Thanks for the Info DAME!

I agree. I wish it could have been live, but for what it is it's simply amazing. I love the "Palace Medley" and the accent she puts on as Elsie in "Cabaret". I did notice, though, that she says "I'm not going like Elsie!" which I thought was odd as it sort of changes the meaning of the whole Elsie bit, but it makes sense if she meant it as Liza and is not singing it in character as Sally.

I saw Liza perform in London earlier this year and and she was fantastic. I can't wait to get this cd but am not prepared to pay $70 plus shipping which is what it is selling on ebay for! Does anyone know of any other places selling it?

Yes, unfortunately CATSNY she's been doing that for the past few years. I actually have a hard time listening to the song when she does that and usually revert back to the Liza with a Z performance. I agree that it changes the whole meaning of the song on te simple basis that in the end Elsie did what she wanted to do for her entire life and that's what Sally is doing.
On a personal note, I would rather live like Elsie and "start by admitting from cradle to tomb, it isn't that long a stay"...
