According to Today's Newspaper adverts for the London show. They say that it closes on September 02nd prior to a Broadway transfer... nothing more specific than that yet.
By the way this is how I first knew that Sweeny was on its way there before the other rumours surfaced and that proved to be correct so fongers crossed for you guys that want to see it.
Good to know that this sounds pretty official. I know there had been an article several weeks ago about Bob Boyett and Co bringing Coram Boy and Rock 'n' Roll over, but from what I recall, Sunday was still a bit in question.

I hope this proves factual! ::fingers crossed::
Ooh, this would be fantastic!
Wow. Excellent news. Between the possible transfer to Broadway and REPRISE! doing a production in LA in February directed by Jason Alexander I am very excited.
Has there been precedence for two revivals of a show by the same composer on the Great White Way before? I kept thinking they would keep 'SITPWG' until the following year, as 'Company' will be here this fall...
Regardless, the more Sondheim, the merrier!

Oh, I hope this is true; it would be so awesome!
There is some precedent for two revivals by the same composer running concurrently. In fact, this wouldn't be the first time in recent memory that two Sondheim musicals have run at the same time.
Gypsy and Assassins overlapped for about a month in 1994.
The 1989 revivals of Gypsy and Sweeney Todd overlapped from November of 1989 until February of 1990.
In terms of non-Sondheim, I know that the revivals of Loesser's The Most Happy Fella and Guys and Dolls overlapped by about 2 weeks in 1995.
You summed it up best though - the more Sondheim, the merrier!

It will be wonderful to finally see this show LIVE on a broadway stage. The last live performance I saw was at the Kennedy Center and it was a really good production, though I was not fond of Raul Esparza's George in the first act. And Melissa Errico was robotic as Dot. I have great hopes for this new production - it is about time!
will they recast with americans? because the woman who played Dot back when i saw it at the menier chocolate factory MADE the show. she was wonderful.

Sunday in the Park with George is poised for a Broadway transfer. The Menier Chocolate Factory production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s musical, which transferred to the West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre in May, will reach the end of its current run there on 2 September. But according to press advertisements, it is now projecting a move to Broadway.
London's Sunday in the Park With George advertises Broadway run...
True, Patronus, but I guess I was leaning more towards a score and lyrics by Mr. Sondheim...
But news about talks regarding a possible transfer have been floated about for some time... Now if we only had a set date, theatre, and possible cast... Though I'm hoping they bring Daniel Evans over. I'd hope to get Jenna Russell too, but I get the feeling that the Equities may trade off bringing Evans over for an American Dot...

Awesome.
I saw this production at the Chocolate Factory and it was beautiful. One of the best things I've ever seen.

This would be amazing.... absolutely amazing.
YAY!!
Two Sondheim shows in one season. Wow, that's rather exiting!
I saw this in London earlier this month. I did not expect to like it as much as I did, because I have never been a fan of the OCR. It taught me never to judge a show through a CD entirely. However, I think the two leads were a key ingredient to making me love the performance.
Glad to hear it will be coming across the Pond. It might find an audience for a little while.

From the above article:
Babani wasn’t, however, able to name possible Broadway producing partners or a likely theatre.
Likely Roundabout, in my opinion.
Oh, it will be coming! I just had a feeling since I read the amazing reviews in London papers.
I am so looking forward to it!

Hopefull it'll be at the Booth to retain its intimacy.
Hm...Butley leaves January 2007!...
Yeah, Roundabout always has their late addition show...could be this.
The use of multimedia in this production is just astounding. I'd love to see it in a Broadway house.
I too saw it in London and it was a very beautiful piece. I would love to see it again, so... ::crosses fingers::
And, Theatreboy33, I am not sure if they will recast with American, though I would presume they would, but the woman who played Dot at the Menier Theatre, Anna-Jane Casey, was replaced by Jenna Russell when it transferred to the West End. I thought Anna-Jane was absolutely amazing, but I would love to see Jenna do the role since I adore her from Guys and Dolls!
