re: London Recordings You Prefer to the Broadway Version

I really don't understand how anyone could like the London Cast Recording of Into the Woods better than the other two. I mean, that famous lady playing the Witch is DREADFUL! ouch! Our Little World is tons better in the revival, Vanessa William's alto is so creamy!

re: London Recordings You Prefer to the Broadway Version

The London Cast Recordings of The Secret Garden, City of Angels, and Into the Woods are big favorites of mine, but none of them surpass the Original Broadway Recordings. The Secret Garden is so revised that I look at it as a different show. Have to have both. City of Angels is more complete, but I prefer the Broadway cast across the board (I am particularly not fond of the London Bobbi) As for Into the Woods, I love the character dialects, love the different tempos taken, and love Our Little World, but I prefer the Broadway cast. Why choose between Joanna Gleason and Imelda Staunton? Need to have both.

That said, if I HAD to choose and only own ONE version of a show, I would pick the Original London Cast of Gypsy over the Broadway recording. Sacrilege, perhaps, but it's the one London cast recording I have that I can honestly say I listen to MORE than the original.

Mary Poppins!

Oh wait...
"It means nothing to come and sit in a theater night after night and immerse yourself in fantasy, only then to walk out the door and be unchanged in reality. This show will live on in our hearts. But where it truly must survive is in our actions, our compassion and our generousity of spirit towards one another." - Adam Pascal on the closing of RENT

Honestly, I think I'll have to go with the '06 revival of SUNDAY... Don't get me wrong, I treasure the OBC, but really, there's just *something* about Daniel and Jenna that makes me melt, and of course, have the damn CD on a loop! Don't hate.

I really kind of hate the London Passion. It's so overdone, it's almost comical.

re: London Recordings You Prefer to the Broadway Version

I'm a little biased as, if I've seen the production, I automatically gravitate more towards the London recording:

Company (Donmar over the 1995 Broadway Revival, though the OBC still rules!)
Sunday in the Park with George
Song and Dance
By Jeeves
Chicago
RNT A Little Night Music
The Rocky Horror Show

I still can't chose between the London cast and original Broadway cast of Into the Woods though...

re: London Recordings You Prefer to the Broadway Version

Does anyone have one of these LP players that imports to your laptop and then thru to an iPod??? Ive got so many LPs that im desperate to transfer to CD im thinking of investing in one. I have about 200 LPs that i know will never get a CD release. Any help or even advice on these machines would be great!

Everyone i knows agrees with me and says that the London 'Annie' is far superior to the Broadway one. Only problem is is that the London is on available on LP.

'Bubbling Brown Sugar' is far more jazzy for the London production.

I am going to switch this around to make my point.
I prefer the OBC recording(Mono) to the London Cast recording(Stereo) of MY FAIR LADY. Rex Harrison is too laid back in the London cast recording, especially in the show's final number when he is questioning his thoughts about Eliza. In the OBC I love his reading of the line, "Marry Fredie...HAH!!!" Also, the sound quality is fine in the digitally remastered OBC, despite its being recorded in Mono, as was true of all albums in the mid 1950's.
