London-Royal Box

Would be interested to know whether every day patrons actually can book seats in London's Royal boxes.

I, personally, imagine many give terrible views but wouldn't like to think they were all reserved for V.I.P guests.

Often these boxes are available and as you say in some theatre's they give an awaful view of the stage. Avoid the Royal Box at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket. Too close to the stage and with the speakers the view is greatly limited.

Many of these boxes were designed for those sitting in them to be seen by the audience as opposed to seeing what was on the stage.

I should add that in most cases if the Royals were to attend a perfromance they would be given other seats in the theatre that affords them more discretion.

They are normally sold at restricted view prices.
Perfect for concerts and pantos but not really recommended for West End shows.

I have sat in a box, just the once and that once recently for 'All My Sons' at the Apollo, which cost me £10 which was great value, however the view is poor with about 13 of the stage cut off.

I was about to say that I think the boxes at the Haymarket are nice... haha xD

I was once told that tickets for the royal box only go on sale the day of the performance after 3pm. At least this is what I was told during the behind the scenes tour at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
The royal family have until 3pm to decide whether to see a show.
I don't know if it's still like this or whether it's the same for other theatres with a royal "connection"

Oooo thats a bit of misplaced history.
The Royal Family are known for hating the boxes in ANY theatre. They will always, if possible, take front dress circle within the first 3 rows.
I have sat many royal party's and they are great fun once inside the building.
My fav was Princess Margaret and Lady Di.
They would drink like it was the last supper.
I was convinced that they came back to see the same show 2 or 3 times cos they were to pissed to remember it from the first time!
Princess margaret would finish a bottle of whiskey in the 10 minutes before curtain and in the interval!

Both saw Maggie and Di saw 'The Sneeze' at least 3 times.

The Queen & Queen Mother saw 'Me And My Girl' twice.

OH wow!

I wonder if the Queen actually likes Les Mis, you know with it being at Bucks Palace etc.

So, are regular punters re-seated further away if The Queen wants to sit in the Dress Circle?

London-Royal Box

No, you could go see anything tomorrow night and sit right next to Her Madge!
Security are in the row behind and of course through out the building.

I remember reading that The Queen went to see War Horse last year and snuck in just as the lights went down.

The Queen came to see a preview of 'Aspects Of Love' at the the Prince Of Wales.
Last minute walk in but spent a good hour after the show with the cast downstairs in the bar.
