My question is....Why? Even if the show is brilliant and the best thing to be on Broadway in a decade this will close in a week in that theatre!
They obviously didn't consult anyone on BroadwayWorld, otherwise they would never have had the naive temerity to book that theatre.
I saw the show in L.A. last year. She's brilliant. The play isn't.
I Am My Own Wife did well at the Lyceum, so it's possible Looped could do well, but it will need stellar reviews and love letters to Valerie.
I hope it does well, I really love her. It just seems that nothing does well in that house anymore and I want her to have a hit!
"Looped will play Tuesday at 7 PM, Wednesday-Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 2 & 8 PM and Sunday at 3 PM."
Only 7 shows a week??
And, let's be honest, what average person under 45 knows who Valeria Harper OR Tullulah Bankhead are? Not that that should be the determining factor in booking a show in a Broadway theatre but... this certainly will be an uphill battle. I wish them well.
P
If it doesn't sell well, maybe they can just fire her and bring in Sandy Duncan.
HA! I was waiting for Calvin to bring that up.
I'm not sure if the producers want it to run for YEARS, Calvin.
If they want stunt-casting I suggest Corbin Bleu as Tallulah.
Damn, I'm predictable.
Where's Charles Busch when you need him!!!
I remember her in Lifeboat and as the Black Widow in the TV Batman.

Here's an interview I recorded with Valerie when she was in DC performing in LOOPED at Arena Stage at The Lincoln Theatre. Enjoy! Joel

Hey, we don't know who's playing opposite her yet. They could bring in a pretty big name as a draw.

I count 8 shows in that schedule.

I was just going to post this. I saw this in Backstage and I hadn't heard anything as of yet. Interesting. I hope more things pop up before the seasons over.
And, let's be honest, what average person under 45 knows who Valeria Harper OR Tullulah Bankhead are?
I do. There are many people my age (24) who grew up watching classic TV on Nick at Nite.
Namo, that's 7 shows: 7 pm Tuesday, 8 pm Wednesday, 8 pm Thursday, 8 pm Friday, 2 pm Saturday, 8 pm Saturday, 3 pm Sunday.

As a fervent admirer of the fabulous Ms. B, I'm looking forward to this immensely. I never had the good fortune of seeing her in person, but, as a child, my parents used to listen to The Big Show and I was immediately intrigued with that fabuous voice. There are some CD's out there with some complete episodes of The Big Show, where her guests included the likes of Ethel Barrymore, Ethel Merman, Fanny Brice and just about everyone who was anyone in the theatre in the early 1950s. Lifeboat is shown on a fairly regular basis and her Lucy episode is a classic representation of the Bankhead persona. By last count, there were nine biographies, including her autobiography that you can usually get on e-bay. Back in the 50's, Bankhead's name was a household word and no drag queen worth his mettle would think of not impersonating her somewhere along the line. If you can dig it up, there was an ANTA series done in the early 50's with Tallulah doing some scenes from The Little Foxes, her greatest stage triumph.
