It is about time they started to bring back all the old broadway theaters in downtown la. I am really looking forward to what this will end up becoming.

Interesting show choice in the artists rendering.

Scary place at night. Personally, I find it scary during the day as well. Los Angeles is not New York. The downtown core is a combination of extreme wealth - the numerous condos which stand like gated enclaves - and extreme poverty. Broadway in particular is intimidating for many people.
That being said, what an amazing wealth of theaters. I've been through most of them on the conservancy tours and they are staggering palaces which make the New York theaters look puny.
But the money required to fix up the street (and kick out the Hispanic stores which is the real intent) would run into the hundreds of millions.
We'll see....

Posted: 1/29/08 at 9:44amHaving lived in Downtown LA since 2003 I can tell you that the change it has experienced is nothing short of miraculous. The coming of LA Live next to the Staples Center will bring in more people and restaurants, clubs, and shopping have started to enter the corridor in force. They are also to start work on the area across from Disney Concert Hall devloping it into a green mall and mixed use living/retail. It is the only part of LA that has any community type feel, where you can walk to places and bump into neighbors and friends. Safety has never been an issue for us down there. I have been looking forward to the theatre renovations for a long time and think that, if managed properly, they can thrive.

I'm so happy between this, Grand Avenue, and L.A. LIVE. L.A. needed a revitalization!
And did anyone else notice WICKED, JERSEY BOYS, and DROWSY CHAPERONE in the artwork? Does that mean these theatres will hold sit-downs/tours?

I hope this happens.
This would greatly change the downtown landscape.

It's just a drawing.
Besides, the rehab only pertains to the building facades. The insides still need the most work.

Drowsy coming to SF around the end of July. It may hold over for a week but not sit down unless the second tour comes about. Wicked is already sitting down in LA and will be until 2009. You can keep Jersey Boys though they seem to like SF quite a bit.
It needs the work in LA and hopefully it will bring in more shows. It has a long way to go before it can compete with Broadway. Just getting good tours and start-ups out here is worth the effort though for them to invest more in live Theatre. As mentioned the recession will hit hard. Though some flourish during those times so it is up to those with plenty of Capitol to decide where best to invest their money. I hope more of it feeds into the Theatre because it does draw out the Community and gives Actors more places to develop their skills.

Maybe I'm being ignorant, but I can't think of anything else that would have the acronym gf.

Mallardo, I have used the subway often. I drive to Universal and park and take it downtown. It is incredibly deep below the ground and vast. The stations are at least five times the volume as New York stations. I think this helps eliminate the claustrophobic worries in an earthquake zone. You don't FEEL like you could ever b trapped during even a 7.0.
HOWEVER, there is a big problem. You can wait haldf an hour at times during the day for a train. There are nowhere near enough trains to be practical. BTW, look at the ceiling of the Hollywood and Vine station. It is plastered with many thousand of film reels. Surplussed by progress.
