This is going to make best12bars' weekend.

I've never seen it but this has piqued my interest. Is it really as bad as people say? It certainly has a good cast (Finch, Ullmann, Kellerman, Gielgud, Boyer, York, etc.) I don't think I will buy it but if it is available on Netflix I might put it in my queue.
I got the dvd a year ago. Saw it like 5 times in the theater when it was originally released.

I hope the fertility dance is included.
I want to see Best do the Fertility Dance, and then I'll get it (again...)

I remember seeing this on TV when I was young... it was actually quite mesmerizing despite all the cheese. Chief among my memories was an incredibly catchy Bacharach score. Now that I've become a jaded adult, I realize why the critics butchered it... and yet it seems to have garnered a very faithful cult following worldwide that have been waiting patiently for a DVD/Blu-Ray release.
the dvd is available from Warner MOD, a-mad.
They are having an awesome sale this weekend too if you want to pick it up.
Does anyone know who is putting this BD out? I don't think Warner does blu ray MOD.
Here is the link to the Warner Archive sale

It really is a pretty dreadful film. Somehow the director managed to make Liv Ullmann look like she'd never been in front of a camera before. And that fertility dance, my God...
Only Charles Boyer manages to emerge unscathed as the High Lama.
Speaking of Burt Bacharach-Hal David scores... If you like their work, then I recommend you check out their 1966 TV musical ON THE FLIP SIDE which starred Rick Nelson and Joanie Sommers. Lots of good pop tunes throughout and terrific orchestrations by Peter Matz. It's now available via mp3 on Amazon. I much prefer this score to that of LOST HORIZON.
The real star of this movie is the DC-3 (the airplane). Too bad it gets bumped off in the first reel.
The Blu-ray is being released by a small company called Twilight Time that licenses title from studios and put out limited editions. Their current release is "Bye Bye Birdie".
I've talked to Sally Kellerman about "Lost Horizon" and she said people come up to all the time and tell her how much they love it, and not in a so bad it's good way. It has a following. The Soundtrack is still in releases.
Twilight Time is a small company that puts out only small limited releases, much like Kritzerland. Birdie is a highly flawed version of the stage show but it certainly has its moments and the film forums have been raving over the image and sound quality. Get it now if you want it.
Lost Horizon? Larry Kramer's secret shame. I get seasick hearing the The World Is a Circle.

Yes, the Fertility Dance is a mess, and "The World Is A Circle" is an even hotter mess BUT just watching Sally Kellerman and Olivia Hussey dance on library ladders and tables and belt out some truly AWFUL lyrics in the classic "On The List of the Things That I Will Not Miss"...it just makes my heart so happy. It even tops Sally's later dancing on a rock in "Reflections".
In a recent obituary for Hal David, Bacharach said he and Hal did not speak for years over "Lost Horizons". It basically broke up their writing team.
Now THAT'S musical comedy!

As Bette Midler once said,"I never pass up the chance to catch a Liv Ullman musical!" Or words to that effect
Oh yes, I'm familiar with Twilight Time.
I've heard good things about their Bye Bye Birdie BD.
I have the dvd for Warner but haven't seen it yet.
I am a fan of the original film with Ronald Colman although I do find it to be an oddity. The original cut ran 6 hours and the preview cut ran 3 1/2.
The final film, just over 2 hours, definitely feels choppy and incomplete.
The BYE BYE BIRDIE blu-ray is one of the best high definition transfers I have EVER seen. The colors pop and they didn't DNR it to death. There's a healthy amount of grain in the image. The iconic opening and closing number with A-M was absolutely breathtaking...I thought she was going to leap off the screen and she sounded like she was singing live in my living room. Twilight and Sony truly outdid themselves with BBB on blu-ray.

Lol, I was referring to you when I said I had heard good things about it.
I have the Japanese release of On The Flipside--I think it's a lot of fun. I know copies are *somewhere* but I've never been able to see it.
I think Lost Horizocore is honestly pretty good, but I'm a huge Bacharach fan (yes it helped break up the David/Bacharach relationship, although I also love the album they did for Dionne that year). It's just when coupled with that film... Definitely an example of a film that is so bad it's good, for me anyway.
