Was there anybody at the show tonight who can give us an unbiased, objective view of how Constantine did as Sammy? Is this going to be a good move for him and for the show, or is it a problem?
Yes, I'd also like to see an unbiased, true opinion. I may also look for some reviews tomorrow.
I heard from a friend that went to the show tonight. Kind of an unbiased opinion since she did not know Constantine was going to be there tonight and had only heard of him from American Idol.
She said she was surprised how good he was. She told me he sang really well and was funny. He can dance, too! Said that he got a nice applause for the curtain call. So the crowd liked him tonght.
They waited outside afterwards and there was a nice little crowd waiting for him. He came out and spent time signing and having pictures with people. She told him he was good tonight and he was very humble about it.
I think this will be a good move for him. He's getting some exposure and good experience.
oops. double post. Sorry.

I am glad he had a good night. I am interested in hearing what people thought of the performance. If you know where to look for the review, please let me know. I am new at waiting for Broadway reviews and don't know where to look. Any tips would be appreciated, esp. links. Thanks a lot.
A friend of mine went tonight, too, and I met up with her at stagedoor. Asked her what she thought of Constantine and she said he was surprisingly really good. :) This was her first exposure to him, so I'd say that's pretty unbiased. She said he'll definitely grow into the role, so that's good.
I'm going to the show tomorrow night and I'll give a review if I can.

Thanks for the information. I am looking forward to hearing your review. Nice to meet you.
To all,
I hear the cast got a standing ovation. Since you are experienced with the play and it's history, perhaps you can confirm the play normally gets standing ovations. I have been to Broadway plays but certainly not as many as some of you. Normally, the shows I went to got a standing ovation so this is typical of Broadway, isn't it? I would think so since this is the best theatre in the world.

We'll be there on the 8th so I will give you a review. My daughter's friend was there tonight and she loved the show...including Constantine. The cast got a standing "O"

Thanks, Tim. I am looking forward to hearing your review, also and am delighted to hear that.
Yeah, the show tends to get a standing ovation. :) And it's certainly well deserved, IMO!

The crowd will almost ALWAYS be on their feet by the time Stephen Lynch and Tina come out, and even when it's just a decent crowd they'll start standing earlier. I've been there a few times when everyone has jumped up to cheer for the ensemble, though. I love when that happens.
I'm going to try and sneak out of work to rush for tomorrow night's show. I love seeing the show when the weather is crappy outside - a bigger crowd is so much more fun. The energy is awesome. Aaaand I'm officially a loser.

Thank you for that news. Constantine has some people who blast everything he does out of hand and others who fawn on him too much. I was hoping we could get an honest look at how he really did, and it sounds like it went well.
Whenever I see the show I stand up the second the male ensemble members step forward. I think they entire cast deserves a standing ovation. Everyone is crazy talented.

when i saw the show, we deff stood up as soon as the female ensemble started coming out for curtain call!! i loved that cause the entire cast serves the standing o!!!!!!
Does anyone think there will actual reviews on the show last night. Since Constantine was really supposed to debut on the 8th, would there be any critics at the show that night to review him?
I *always* stand up as soon as ensemble goes to take their bows. Of course, I do that for any show I think deserves it.
Froggy, if you go tonight, look for me! Jeans and a Nebraska hoodie. LOL Row D, 103! Though I may move up closer if there's an available seat..

I was at the show last night. I went primarily to see Kevin as Robbie, the fact that it happened to be Constantine's first was just a side point. For those of you who are curious how he was, I was very pleasantly surprised. He sounded great, his dancing was fine and his comedic timing was pretty good. He didnt nail it as well as Matthew, but that's to be expected considering it was his first show. I'm not a Constantine fan at all, and a pretty big WS fan, so I think my opinion is pretty unbiased. And I was not disappointed by his performance. I think he'll do well. And let's hope he brings in the crowds because last night was so empty. They only sold about 10 rush seats, the rest of the front row was empty. The orchestra was pretty full but the mezz was only about 25% full.
A lot of stagedoor last night was people waiting around for Constantine, though. As soon as he finished up and left, pretty much the entire crowd disappeared. And neither Kevin or Tina had even come out yet! LOL
