I take it Doyle is playing the Liza part...?
"Eartha Kitt as a 48 year old Italian woman?"
I'm not really basing my desire to see them in those roles on anything besides how entertaining I think it would be.
Rathnait62, the article mentioned that Ambassador is hoping for a transfer to New York from London. It sounds to me like they are planning long term, and if she was officially set to do Gypsy, that would probably prevent her from making any commitment that far in the future.
Then I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Did you see Linda Blair in Grease, Rath? If so, how was she?

Linda Blair did "Grease" Wow, and just when I thought I couldn't loose anymore respect for a show...

I'm really excited by ths news, I just hope doyle can think outside of the outside of the box thinking he has been useing. I mean if it works, yay! But I would HATE to see the sink because of an englishman's rutt.

As Cathy sings in THE LAST FIVE YEARS (in a sing in which we hear her inner thoughts during an audition):
WHY AM I WORKING SO HARD?
THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO PUT LINDA BLAIR IN A MUSICAL
JESUS CHRIST, I SUCK, I SUCK, I SUCK...
Oh God. Not the actor-musician thing again. Isn't this gimmick old now?
Sorry, I rushed through the article, but did it say he was planning on using that concept? He has done and is capable of doing other things. He happens to be using the actor-musician concept frequently now, but I wouldn't just assume everything he will do will follow that way.
Similar to the way I feel about Bernadette, I want Patti to ORIGINATE roles. I'm tired of revivals.
Patti LuPone + "Cheif Cook and Bottle Washer" = Genuis. I can't wait! It's a score that must be heard again.

YOU PEOPLE ARE RIDICULOUS.
If you have a problem with the work being done right now, then MOUNT YOUR OWN SHOWS.
This is the work that he wants to do. If you don't like it, don't go see it.
How many times can the man do the same stuff over and over again.
Do you think his next show will be Ragtime, so they can make there own costumes, as well as sets, **** why don't they just build the theatre as well.

Well the original Ragtime sort of did build its own theatre...and Zachary Goldfarb, calm down, not a BIG deal, some of us enjoy his ideas, however, I think it would be like if Julie Taymor came in and did 2 more musicals EXACTLY like "lion King" we wouldn't want to see it all the time, even if we do like it.
Is Doyle doing the instrument thing AGAIN! He is going to wear it out and then it won;t be fun!
Patti has done only 4 musical revivals. SWEENEY TODD, ANYTHING GOES, OLIVER!, and THE BEGGAR'S OPERA. I doubt that you were alive for THE BEGGAR'S OPERA, and you were certainly too young for OLIVER! - plus it ran for very few performances. So that leaves one, maybe two musical revivals that you have seen her in. You were probably around 4 years old when she was in ANYTHING GOES.
Bernadette was also in 4 musical revivals. GYPSY, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, ON THE TOWN, and THE MOST HAPPY FELLA. There's no way that you saw the last two. You've seen Bernadette re-create exactly 2, maybe only 1 role.
I don't see why this is a problem. Sure, new material is exciting - but as long as immense talents like Peters and LuPone are re-creating iconic roles like Annie Oakley, Mama Rose, Mrs. Lovett, and Reno Sweeney - what's the problem?
And no, THE RINK isn't an iconic role, but it's a show that's not done anymore. Who cares? What's the harm?
The other thread got deleted, so I'll post it here. If I don't see Patti LuPone on roller skates, I'm going to eat a baby.

Thank you munkustrap.
There really is nothing wrong with re-creating a role, sometimes, they do it better than the original...Alan Cumming in Cabaret (Not better than Joel, but at least as good as), Audra McDonald in Carousel, Tracey Ullman in Once Upon a Mattress, the list is endless. Yes, it is nice for someone to really lay claim to an original role, Patti LuPone with Evita, or Donna McKechnie in Promises, Promises, Company, or Chorus Line, but there are soooo many great roles that some of these actress can fill and most likely be riviting and amazing in.
Elaine Stritch in SHOWBOAT.
Audra in RAISIN IN THE SUN.
Antonio Banderas in NINE.
Please. Some of the greatest performances are in revivals.

Oh! And how could I forget:
Patty Duke in Oklahoma
Brooke Sheilds in Grease
Brooke Sheilds in Cabaret
Jasmine Guy in Grease
Terrance Mann in Rocky Horror
Lea DeLaria in On the Town AND Rocky Horror
Bebe Neuwirth in Chicago
Donna McKechnie in Sweet Charity
Jessica Grove in Wizard of Oz (Not a revival technically, but meh)
I know know if Patty Duke, Brooke Shields, and Jasmine Guy are helping our cause....
Booke Shields in WONDERFUL TOWN, maybe.....

I guess...Brooke and Jasmine and Patty were more replacements, but I still say Brooke and Jasmine were tons better than Rosie, and I can't even *remember* the lady that Patty Duke replaced, so, I counted them.
That lady called Andrea Martin?

OMG, it was her...wow I feel like an ass....if you read this Andrea, pllllllllleaaaaaaaase forgive me (She probably doesn't but I do love her to death)
She was a great Cat in the Hat...better than Rigby or O'Donnel
