I want Audra, Kecia, and Patti to come out hand in hand and open the Tonys.  It would show grace and elegance.  But it is not going to happen.  I know most of you want to stay on the hate train.

This is all so silly.

The issue is Patti thinks she can go around calling other Black performers bitches to no consequence. I hope she knows she's the biggest oneof them all.

"

We covered this earlier in the thread. She literally called Glenn Close a bitch in the same interview.

Aside from her performance in The Deliverance, last time I checked Glenn is white.

Patti is an equal opportunity offender.

THIS. IS. NOT. ABOUT. RACE.

I agree of course that Patti should be more sensitive, especially when talking about POC, but she won’t change. So let’s stop expecting her to.
"

No matter how large you type your font it doesn't change the fact that it IS about race. Bc as a white woman Patti felt entitled to behave this way. That is how WHITE PRIVILEGE works. You can spin and neutralize it however you want, but Broadway has race issues and I know you want us to just chat about Tony awards and excuse the industry, but sadly that kind of mindset is very behind us. White women will be called out for their privileged behavior. At one point it was simply allowed, in 2025 it isn't.

Just because she called Glenn a bitch doesn't mean her behavior is not a form of white supremacy - which is directly linked to RACISM. Deny, deflect, excuse. You all seem to only comprehend racism when folks are murdered or profiled. Catch up with the times.

And you're showing us WHY! White people like yourself have a hard time listening. You can't fathom that maybe someone carries evil that you don't want them too. It would take you hearing Patti use the N word on live recording to admit that maybe her entitlement comes from a place of privilege. I've said my piece. The rest is your work to do.

I don't know Patti.  And I certainly don't know you.  You are spewing hate and nonsense.  You come off as a horrible person here.  Stop preaching. All that comes out of you is distorted and vile.  You are so good at generalizing everyone aren't you?

I hear black women use the word bitch all the time.  My mother in law certainly does.  And it is not racist. So they can give it.. but they can't take it? ???  Nonsense.  I find the whole racism accusation to be a bunch of nonsense that diminishes the reaction to when it really happens.  You are a disgrace.

It will always be a reach to people who don't live it everyday. Enjoy your echo chamber of whiteness on this thread. I will happily speak up and continue to do so. What starts as a noise complaint can turn into cops showing up in the REAL world, not in your theater bubble. And that can lead to violence on Black bodies. So the optics of Ms. Lupone felt racially motivated to a predominately POC company - whether you like it or not. But it's obviously most of you don't care about how POC feel in this scenario. You'd rather us shut up and accept what we are given. That's what you and Patti have in common.

We are not talking about “the real world” though.

We ARE talking about a “theater bubble.”

The cops are not going to storm the Shubert and arrest the cast for being too loud.

Not everything is a social justice battle.

Like I said, I think her approach was insensitive, but I also think SHE is insensitive. She has also been an incredible, fearlessly vocal ally for the anti Trump movement.

She is on the right side of history.

She’s just on the wrong side of tactfulness.

Anyway, I’m done for now. I’ll check back in tonight when the convo takes yet another crazy turn as I’m sure it will.

But see this is where your ignorance shows. Inside the theater community POC are often treated just as they are on the streets and in the world. And to most of you, you cannot comprehend that. So it's frustrating when POC  speak up about their experiences and are shut down. RACISM exits in the theater bubble. It's why Patti has 28 show and Audra far less - but more Tony's. Maybe look up the Black Face that bowed on Broadway. Museum of Broadway has a whole section on it. You thinking there is a separation is exactly the problem. You just proved my point.

We understand how deadly it can be when the cops are frivolously called on POC by irritated white people.  But the truth of the matter is this DID happen in the theater bubble.  Context matters, yes?  Are you saying you think the managers of the theater were going to call the cops on the cast of Hell's Kitchen for being too loud?  To conflate this kerfuffle with cop violence is ridiculous, more than a little desperate, and does nothing to convince people of your POV.

EDIT:  Oh, never mind.  Now they're going on about how there could have been a murder in this context.  Completely brain-broken.
