Lyric Opera's Carousel to replace King and I?

Tony specifically said its the Lyric production that would transfer.
If it's true, that's a real shame. I left at intermission. The sets were mostly ugly (the giant piles of poop used for the bench scene were particularly hideous) and the choreography either uninspired or just flat-out weird (particularly the creepy freak show choreography in the opening). June is Bustin' Out was staged using the blandest of the standard "opera" direction and the first act finale was staged and designed in the dullest way possible for the space. Pasquale did a great job at holding your attention for the Soliloquy as he had to battle the eyesore of that giant concrete dock. Excellent performances from Pasquale, Osnes and Gambatese. Unfortunately, they weren't enough to make me want to suffer through the rest of the show.

I would honestly rather see Sher do a new revival with Pasquale and Osnes. I heard from a friend who saw the production that it wouldn't work very well outside of an opera setting, but that Pasquale and Osnes were fantastic and would transfer beautifully.

The production of the king and I being done at lyric is the production that was done at theater du chalet in France a few years ago, not Bartlett Sher's. I for one really enjoyed lyrics Carousel. I love the updated setting, and the sets. Although I do agree, the size of the opera house did not work in its favor. And yes, the big production numbers like June is bustin out all over and the opening, were subpar, the ballet was fantastic. Also the cast over all was shear perfection.

If they can't get Osnes who will do Julie? I know it would never happen but I would love to see Steven and Kelli O'Hara in Carousel. That would be amazing.

How long does writers copyright last for? I heard once it was 75 years, if this is the case Rogers and Hammerstein Organisation will lose complete control of Oklahoma and Carousel soon?

Sounds like a fine idea to me!

If the copyright was registered or the work was published by 1978 it lasts 95 years from the date of registration/publication. If the work was created but not published or registered until after 1978 it lasts 70 years after the death of the last surviving author. I don't know what is considered publication for these purposes.
Its also complicated by the fact that there are separate copyrights on each element of the work (music, lyrics, script) as well as the work as a whole.

Nobody said the production being done at Lyric Opera was Bartlett Sher's.

I loved Lyric's Carousel and felt that tweaking a few technical issues, most of which would be easily resolved on a smaller stage with newer mechanics, and some casting changes (Audra as Nettie?) could make it truly shine.
Not sure if this is either true or relevant, but... "There are rumours that Ms O’Hara will lead the Lincoln Centre production (of King and I) to London, making her West End debut maybe late next year or early in 2017."
