Lyrics to "Bloody Mary"

I noted while viewing the magnificent version of "South Pacific" aired on PBS last week that the lyric to "Bloody Mary" was "Her skin is tender as DiMaggio's glove". In the film version I recall the lyric as "Her skin is tender as a baseball glove". Why was the lyric changed? Did DiMaggio refuse to give permission?

He's a public figure, there's no need for his "permission".

My GUESS? The movie wanted to keep it a little more "timeless" even though it is of a certain period.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

My guess is because of the international release of the film. Is it possible people did not know who DiMaggio was overseas?

I liked the consistency between the lyric "Bloody Mary's chewin' betel nuts" and the actress having the red lips and teeth that go with that.

Some of the stupidest lyrics ever. Up there with "Little Lamb."
