As long as I have been watching, they always have been.
Due to the logistics of the location and other outdoor elements, ALL of the Broadway musicals that perform on Herald Square at the parade lip-sync to a pre-recorded track. Its always been this way for the exact same reason.
Yup.
They're usually horribly lipsync'd, but this year I thought everyone did a really good job. Especially Lin Manuel.

Did Idina lipsynch?

All the performers on the floats do also, so yeah, Idina did.
Lin Manuel Miranda was great as was the rest of the cast. It's just too bad we didn't hear more of them. I really wish it was the full song with more interaction with the cast.

$96,000 would have been so much better. The cut-down version of the opening doesn't do it for me.

James Taylor (on a float) played guitar and sang live- the only one.

the WHITE CHRISTMAS cast must've been happy to perform in that winter gear!
Did Idina lipsynch?

Of course, did you hear her gasp.
anyone remember the hilarity of wicked's performance a few years back? (Cheno completely forgot to mouth a line)

what line did she not mouth?
Omg Kristin an that AWFUL jacket her butt reminds me of the Old Woman from Candide
Is it really that hard to type in "Wicked thanksgiving parade?" I looked at a video and watched Kristin through the whole thing and didn't notice her missing a line. What part was it?
Yeah, what line?
There was no completely forgotten missed line. She is about a half a second late when she says "two best friends" at the end.
I was really impressed with the lipsyncing this year. Young Frankenstein last year was kind of weird.
A lot of the videos on Youtube have changed the ending and laid the recording over the two best friends part. It took me like three videos to find the correct one with Cheno starting late.
Did this happen already? I wanted to watch it. Dammit.

I remember many years ago when the cast of Chicago did "Both Reached for the Gun" when Marilu Henner took over for Anne Reinking. It became blatantly obvious that they were lip syncing when Roxie's "Are you kidding?" was Anne Reinking's voice and not anything that sounded remotely like Marilu.
