As by my user name on here you can tell I love Madeline Kahn. She was one the best actresses of the broadway stage and many hollywood movies. I miss her so much. I have tickets to see The ThreePenny Opera in June with my other favorite actress singer Cyndi Lauper. No one could touch Madeline Kahn in comedy, but Cyndi Lauper, is also in her own right and excellent comedienne. I could have seen Madeline playing Jenny Diver in Opera if she was still here today. I saw her on broadway for the first time in On The Twentieth Century and she blew me away after loving her in all her movies. Cyndi could redo that part of Lily Garland if they were to revive it today. I think Lauper can be th enew Kahn of sorts. I waited for years for her to make her broaday debut and always wished these 2 could have done a play or film together. Its great broadway gives us such diverse actresses to entertain us. Just joined this site today and love it so far and hope to know if there any other fans of these 2 lovely ladies out there.
Welcome to the boards! I love Madeline too - am a fan of Cyndi's, but she's nowhere near inspired me as much as Madeline. You're so lucky to have seen her live!
Thanks for your response. I agree with you on so many levels too. Like Rosie O'Donnell said about Barbra Streisand she was the queen of all things, I feel the same way about Madeline Kahn. She could do anything. Cyndi Lauper comes a clse second. I actually saw Madeline Kahn live 7 times in my life. The first time ever was in the audience od Saturday night live, then in On The Twentieth Century, then saw her off-broadway in a play called What's Wrong with This Picture after that I saw her in Borny Yesterday twice and her final Broadway tony award winning performance in The Sisters Rosenweig and in the audience of Cosby the last time I ever saw her live. I never got to meet her in person but when I saw her in Born Yesterday she looked rigth at me in the eye and smile during her bow. I was in the front row seat and was the only one standing. I have met Cyndi Lauper so many times in person and just saw her at the Coda nightclub last month. Did you see her in The ThreePenny Opera yet. I think shemay get a tony award nomination and even win for sure.
Welcome! I, myself, am a Madeline Kahn junkie. I think she was brilliant, and one of the greatest overall talents I've ever seen.
I could have seen Madeline Kahn as a hilarious Dorothy Brock, Dolly Levi, Mrs. Lovett, etc. She was taken away too soon.
PS - I also believe that she should have won the Oscar for Paper Moon.

If Madeline Kahn were around today, I think she could be a wonderful Mrs. Peachum. But Jenny? I don't see it. When she was younger, she might have been a wonderful Polly.
And much as I like Cyndi Lauper, I don't think she would even attempt to sing a role like Lily Garland. There are roles in which she could be terrific, like Dolly or other Comden-and-Green roles like Hildegarde Esterhazy (though she may be a little old now for the latter) or Ella Peterson. But not Lily Garland.
I have to say, it hurts my heart a little every time I think of her. She made everything she was in more fun. I saw her in Born Yesterday, and then about a year and a half before she died at a GMHC benefit concert. She sang "Down In The Depths." It was glorious...sincere and funny at the same time. Anybody ever hear her sing the lonley frog song? Priceless!

I love her.
I'm so tired
Tired of playing the game,
Ain't it a freakin shame?
I'm so...
Let's face it, everything below the waste is kapput!
She's one of those perfomers whom it saddens me to think that they're gone...

She makes me cry laughing when I watch her do "Getting Married Today" on one of the Sondheim DVDs. I wish I had gotten to see her when she was alive. She is truly missed.
Has anyone in here had the chance to see Madeline Kahn in On The Twentieth Century? I saw it the same week it opened and she was so phenominal in that. She should have won the tony award for her role of Lily Garland. I also hate the fact they didn't film it with her in it, she could have won an oscar and yes I agree she should have won for Paper Moon and even Blazing Saddles. As many of her fans know though she left the cast of OTTC after 2 months . I think the shows producers were so unkind to her at that time. It saddens me she is gone. I think of all the other plays and movies she could have played in if she were still here. How about a broadway show based on her or her career. I mean there will never been anyone out there as great as Madeline Kahn was.
No one will ever live up to Madeline... but I can see what you mean! And welcome!
i think I only saw Kahn in Clue and I loved her. hilarious!
