Make Someone Happy - Do Re Mi

Posted: 8/2/06 at 8:53pmSo, I heard "Make Someone Happy from "Do Re Mi" on Sirius Radio Broadway and really enjoyed it. I know it's a famous song, and lyrics are all over the internet to covers if the song. HOWEVER, what I really adored was the verse before the first "make someone happy" (the intro, I suppose) which is proving to be very difficult. Can anybody help?

"The sound of applause is delicious,
It's a thrill to have the world at your feet.
The praise of the crowd is exciting,
But I've learned that is not what makes a life complete.
There's one thing you can do for the rest of your days
That's worth more than applause,
The screaming crowd, the bouquets:
Make someone happy..."
That?

Back in the late 1960's, it was used on commercials for Bell Telephone, telling people to make more long distance calls.
And in the 1990's Bettyy Crocker did "Bake Someone Happy".

And have you heard Judy Garland's version?
No one can sing "Fame, if you win it / Comes and goes in a minute / Where's the real stuff in life to cling to?" like Judy could.

Was that Jimmy Durante singing it at the end of "Sleepless in
Seattle"? Also, what's the rest of Do Re Mi like...?
