Do you think it can be done, if even one out of the three urchins or all three were male? I think it would be an interesting spin, although their is that element of sassy female urchin that I love--what do you think?

i for one would love to be a male urchin in that show.
I don't want this to come off as sexist, but I don't think it would work. It would ruin the whole 60s Girl Group Dynamic....unless you wanted to change it to a Four Seasons dynamic...but I just don't think it would work. It's kidna like making the Quartet in Music Man female.

Yeah, they are supposed to resemble a '60s girl group. In fact, their names (Ronnette, Chiffon and Crystal) are names of girl groups from the '60s: The Ronettes, The Chiffons and The Crystals. I don't think a man would work well.
When I was in Music Man, the High Tenor of the Quartet sucked, and I often had to sing offstage for him.

I once saw a production that had four urchins. 2 were male, 2 were female. And...it did not work at all. But I'm speaking from production values, I guess if you re-worked the music...it COULD work. But I do agree, "they're supposed to resemble a '60s girl group."

Only if it's Billy Porter, Darius DeHaas, and Chester Gregory.

And Ty Taylor.
And adding another urchin would ruin it for me. Not to mention you'd have to rework the tight harmonies.
Whatever happened to Ty Taylor?
And they would all have to be gay or the lines would have to be re-written. Having guys say those lines in the scene with the trio and Audrey would be like having drag queens on stage.
Yeah...do you mean like, males in drag or males playing males singing it lower?

Males playing males.
And Ty Taylor is in We Will Rock You in Las Vegas, but he really needs to come back to New York.

It would ruin the balance of the show. Seymour, Mushnick, the dentist and Audrey 2 are all male. Without the urchins being female, Audrey is the sole female.

Definately. I would love to do it, too. :)

I'm not so sure about Chester Gregory but with Billy and Darius, you don't even need to transpose the music down!
I'm a big fan of Little Shop and I think that would totally mess the show up. Sorry that's just my thought on that...
