Mandy Moore Mix-up

Add another starlet to the Glinda war. This was posted recently on mtv.com:

"Mandy Moore has a chance at hitting the Great White Way. She's been offered the lead role in "Wicked," a Broadway retelling of "The Wizard of Oz" from the witches' point of view, once Kristin Chenoweth, who plays Glinda, leaves the show. Moore posted on her Web site that it was "an honor" to be considered, "But how could anyone step into those shoes? She's pretty unbelievable and irreplaceable and totally owns the role."

I really thought that this was decided already. Jennifer Laura Thompson will be playing Glinda. I can't see Mandy Moore in this role at all.

re: Mandy Moore Mix-up

Jennifer Laura Thompson is taking over on July 20th, I believe. Cheno leaves the 18th.

The Mandy Moore thing isn't going to happen, at least not yet. They offered her the part, yes, but she didn't take it. It's Jennifer. Thank God.

re: Mandy Moore Mix-up

I thought Laura Bell didn't take the part because they were not offering her enough money or something to do with the contract etc? Seems like Mandy Moore would cost alot more money

re: Mandy Moore Mix-up

Laura posted this notice on her website as to why she's not taking the role of Glinda:

In the words of "Glinda,"
"Because there has been so much rumor, and speculation... Innuendo...
Out-uendo... Let me set the record straight."

In an effort to clear up some of the confusion regarding the news that has been circulating about my offer to play the part of "Glinda" in Wicked, I am sorry to report that I was unable to accept the final offer that was made. There are other opportunities that I feel I need to make a priority at this time and leave myself available for. If I accepted the binding Wicked contract I would be excluding myself from those opportunities. For this reason, I was unable to accept the contract.

Thank you all for your support, especially for the last 7 months when I have had the privilege to perform as "Glinda" in Wicked. It has been such a pleasure, and I wish all the "Glinda's" in the future much love and support in fulfilling their duties.

As the opportunities that I have mentioned come to fruition, you will be the first to hear about them
on this website.
Warmly,
Laura

Mandy Moore as Glinda? Ugh! I'm glad it's not happening.

Agreed. Mandy as Glinda does not work, but I think shed make a great Nessa when Michelle leaves!

re: Mandy Moore Mix-up

I think Mandy Moore could do Broadway. I think she could possibly make a good Audrey. I heard her duet with Adam Pascal on "Suddenly Seymour". It wasn't half bad. I just would hate to hear her massacre a role written for a singer who has a classical soprano as well as a belt. She doesn't have the soprano, to my knowledge. I'm really glad that J-La is doing it. She is more than capable.

re: Mandy Moore Mix-up

I don't think she could sing the role at all...but she could certainly act it...quite well. Go see Saved! or for that matter any of her interviews...she's always overly nice and overly friendly and completely political...but always with a slight icy, bitchy edge. Actually I don't think she'd have to ACT at all...she could just be herself...with more bubbles and glitter.

re: Mandy Moore Mix-up

It's Jennifer Laura Thompson, and I think this will be for the best, although, I wish Kristin weren't leaving.
