I really don't think so. That role is pretty vocally demanding and from what I've heard, Mandy's a good singer, but her range isn't up to the caliber to do that role.
On the other hand, in terms of stunt casting, NOTHING surprises me anymore. :)

Posted: 4/29/04 at 5:49pmSomeone better slap some sense into the producers.

Posted: 4/29/04 at 5:51pmUnfortunately, people like Mandy will continue to be considered, and in many cases hired until audiences stop wanting to see them. Producers have taken a 'play to the lowest common denominator' approach to their jobs. Which only hurts us all the in long run.

BRAVA...
Mandy Moore's CD "Coverage" was one gutsy freakin album which she all but dared the record company to release and it was applauded by many critics..and she gained the respect of many people in the industry!
Her appearance in the upcoming film "Saved" is being hailed in press screenings..and was a smash at Sundance!
For Miss. Moore to come to Broadway right now would be nothing short of slumming so I applaud her for doing so...

Don't get me wrong, I love Mandy Moore. But stunt casting pisses me off.

Especially in a role like Glinda.
Of course, there is absolutely no proof whatsoever of Mandy coming to Wicked yet besides what someone heard from a friend. So let's wait until there's something official on it before we get the torches and pitch forks out.

Posted: 4/29/04 at 6:45pmI really couldn't picture her as Glinda. Nessarose maybe but not Glinda. Nessarose isn't really a big enough role to advertize her in though.

Posted: 4/29/04 at 7:15pmI just think Oprah should replace Kristin. With Sally Jesse as Elpheba and Donahue as The Wizard.

Posted: 4/29/04 at 7:19pmJust a question, were people kidding about Megan Mullaly? Because I seriously think she'd be great in the role. She has the comedic timing, most likely the range (is she can play Rosemary, she can probably play Galinda), and she has the HEIGHT!

Posted: 4/29/04 at 7:39pmI love Megan Mullaly, but as Galinda I may have trouble,I'd keep expecting her to order another martini.

Posted: 4/29/04 at 7:39pmI think all shows should just close when the original cast leaves....

Posted: 4/29/04 at 7:42pmNo way! Sometimes the shows, if they are good, are NOT star-driven. Like Hairspray. Although I got to see the original cast, I'm so excited to go this summer with Harvey gone, and see such a great SHOW again.

Posted: 4/29/04 at 7:50pmMandy Moore has a sweet sounding voice, and I could see her in some musical theater roles(Like Nessarose), but she could never in her life pull of Glinda. She actually participated in a Broadway concert aired on Bravo singing "Adelaide's Lament" and "Suddenyl Seymour" with Adam Pascal, and she was fine. She could do great in simple roles, but she could never handle a role of Glinda's magnitude, that's for damn sure.

Posted: 4/29/04 at 8:07pmCall me crazy but I don't see why anyone who is at the height of their recording and Hollywood career in Movies would take the time off to do a show. Maybe she'll do one in ten years when she's a hasbeen.

Posted: 4/29/04 at 8:18pmMaybe she just WANTS to try acting out...just because she's popular in the music biz doesn't mean she shouldn't still try new things and do what she wants.
