I vote there is no more discussion about putting her as Glinda, because whether you like her or not, she WOULD NOT be able to do justice to the role right after someone like Kristin has it.
First, let's stop devoting 2 pages to "I heard from my sister that...", it's not true no matter how badly Anthony wants it to be. I suppose no one saw Mandy Moore WARBLE out "Suddenly Seymour" on that bravo, (or was it PBS) special? It was absolutely the most dreadful thing ever heard and basically, cost her the role which she did want very badly. And no, I didn't hear that from anyone's sister. And voice, I'm glad her album was so "critically lauded", too bad it's a big fat BRICK.
well if we cant believe what someone says they heard from their sister, how can we believe you when you tell us about mandy moore's career intentions-? how do you know she wanted that role badly? if you care to explain, thats fine... but it seems hipocritical of you to say that we shouldnt believe such rumors (and im not saying we should) if you seem to be posting the same ammount of strangely vauge awareness of how casting dissisions are made.
i think there is a popstar -phase going around bway-pray it stops very very soon!@
If stunt casting works (like Joey Fatone in RENT) then I have absolutely no problem with it. If it doesn't (Melanie Griffith in CHICAGO), I do. Who says that stars from music, television, and film can't come to Broadway?
As for Mandy Moore, I find myself respecting her more and more every day. She has got a truly beautiful voice and is a pretty darn good actress. She would be a great 'Ariel' in FOOTLOOSE. As for Glinda.... I doubt that it's true. But if it is, let's just wait and see before we judge.

Call me crazy but I don't see why anyone who is at the height of their recording and Hollywood career in Movies would take the time off to do a show. Maybe she'll do one in ten years when she's a hasbeen.
So you're saying she's too good for the role? Nice to see you think so much of theater. Sadly, yes, most "stars" who go to Broadway are declining, but that isn't always true. Look at Hugh Jackman, or whatshername in Beauty and the Beast. (She isn't declining, is she? I haven't the slightest clue about the Disney channel)
But seriously, that comment sounded a little off for a Broadway website.

I don't think Mandy would work for Glinda.
However, I also think she can act.
Just because she's a "pop star" doesn't mean she doesn't have talent at all.

Why does this thread make me sick to my stomach?
Al Dente - it was on Bravo. And yes, dreadfully horrible.
Plum, I don't think you can judge what I think of theatre. If I didnt love theatre I wouldnt be on this board or in NYC eating ramen noodles while i pursue my acting career. I'm not saying she's to good for the role. I think alot of Broadway, but in my eyes a national career would come first.
Again, AlDente has come to a thread to post about something that he says he does not care about. Whay do you do that? If you don't care, then don't bother reading it. Jeez.
but the deal is that Al is so so so right. I can't believe any respectful Broadway fan thought her performance on the Bravo special was "good", or "fine", or anything positive. i wanted kill myself listening to it. it proved to me further how many pop stars like her, compare to a voice like Adam Pascal's. she sang the suddenly seymour in her breathy-ass headvoice!!! you could barely hear her with him. she was soooo weak! she can definitely act fine - in movies..stick with that darling. and seventeen magazine covers
boy i'm hostile tonight !!!
i agree that mandy was no good with suddenly seymour, thats not what i have a problem with. i take issue with how al tells people not to start threads based on rumors, then basically includes one in his own.
and thank you, shermanslave, for also noticing this re-occuring annoyance and mentioning it. i have done so in the past to no avail, and i doubt mentioning that fact that almost every time al dente posts it is to say that the subject of the thread is stupid, will stop him from continuing to do just that. but hey, at least i know i am not the only one who notices it.

Newyrokuniq, you literally said that she should wait until she's a has-been to do theater. Doesn't sound very complimentary of Broadway. If it's a statement of a trend, though, you're right. And I know you're very unlikely to be a member of a theater board if you hate the medium. :)
If the producers want to put Mandy Moore in "Wicked" let them. Personally I don't like stunt casting and think it has worked on VERY few ocasions, like Hugh Jackman in "The Boy From Oz" (I still say he's not a wonderful vocalist). Christy Carlson Ramono has a ligtimate claim to be on broadway because she played Mary in the original production of "Parade" long before she was on TV. I will forever disagree with casting Joey Fatone in "RENT" and I think he butchered the songs from the clips I've seen of him. Another mistake was casting Backstreet Boy, Kevin as Billy Flynn in "Chicago".
Let the producers do what they want, they'll find out if they've made a mistake.
And they could always cast someone worse than Mandy Moore.

Oh Really ...If I remember correctly, Clive Barnes, a New York Theatre Critic for over 35 years, called Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys, the best Billy Flynn he had ever seen...
Get your facts straight!
My boyfriend recently bought a copy of A Walk to Remember, and we watched it together. Now, aside from the usual soap-operaish Teen Angst quality to the film, I thought Mandy Moore was really good in it. I'd never been exposed to her before and I think she has a lovely quality to her acting style, looks, and a really sweet voice. I am even doing one of her songs in my up-coming cabaret act. I am not sure how she would do as Galinda, but I say - let her have a chance to prove herself (and I am one of those people totally against stunt casting...but I have a feeling she might surprise some people, even though I think a seasoned Broadway veteran might be a better choice for the role). Just my two cents worth!
Funny my sister's boyfriends cousin's dry cleaner, oh wait, I don't have a sister...ok, that's right my man-groomer's daughter's spanish teacher's life partner "heard" it was going to be Sally Struthers and Suzi Quatro taking over the leads in July.
God No! Has anyone ever heard Mandy sing live? HORRIBLE!!!

Suzi Quatro! (LOL)
Eddie - that was cute - I love Sally Struthers on Gilmore Girls - shes a NUTCASE...but has a nice singing voice. A friend of mine did Mame with her awhile back (Sally played Gootch and got great reviews)...
Sherman, get a grip. I'm not like a whole mess of others on this board, who get off on "proving" how they "know" things. I'm not some tween hoping that the stars in the posters on my bedroom wall, are going to *star* in my favorite show. I'm telling you what I know. Mandy Moore wanted desperately, to be Audrey and then she wanted desperately, to be Millie. Enough said. Sorry that my source of information isn't as credible as my sisters' third cousin twice removed. If YOU don't like MY posts, I suggest you don't waste your precious energy, feeding mine.
Never saw him, let me rephrase, I wouldn't think he would be a good Billy Flynn, then again everyone has different opinions.

I wouldn't think he would be a good Billy Flynn..
Have you been reviewing shows since 1975.....??Did you see every original cast for a show since 1975..if not before 1975....
Barnes has...
Two things:
I like Mandy Moore. She's smart, sweet, sensual without being slutty (not that I have anything against slutty) and radiates a lovely quality.
And number two: I love everyone who's talking about the role of Galinda is if it's Medea. I mean...vocally, it can be tough if ya don't have the notes...but acting-wise? COME ON!

..and 50 percent of "the notes" in that role are interpolated..
Interpolated means that the singer has gone against a composer's wishes and ADDED the high notes so they can show off their voice while serving no one but themselves...
