Thanks broadway chica!
That was a very informative update and a satisfying read!
lol, I hope you weren't being sarcastic!! I'll make a more detailed post tomorrow, after I've rested. I'm really beat right now.
But it was a great show, a really solid set. Mano joked about having wanted to be a rock star, and although I'm glad he went for musical theater, he showed he really has the chops to have been a really good rock/pop singer songwriter. I hope he continues to do sets like this in the future, cause he's amazingly talented!
oh i wish i could go. the website said it was sold out?! is this true? anyone have an extra ticket?
It's NEVER too late, chica, especially when you have chops like he does.
And absolutely not a hint of sarcasm is meant to be coming from this end - it was a joy to read your post. Looking forward to more!
Night!
It's sold out, but several people were able to get in tonight via standby. I know of 2 girls who were there early with no tickets, and were able to get in. If you get there early, you might get lucky!
manoel + "get lucky" - what a thought! (ha)
*swoons like an idiot*
sorry so nauseating...
I hope some publicists or agents or industry whatevers are reading this...
Hey Show Business! Get him more gigs! Put him in more shows! We'll come and tell our friends!

Remembering more...
Mano's aforementioned opening night gift sonnet ended with "Sweeney F***ing Todd", and thru the night he made a few more references to "(whatever) F***ing (whatever)." The first letter of each line also spelled something, which I am forgetting, but it was quite touching.
He used a faux-British accent a lot in his speech, maybe when he was a little nervous, and once a Castillian Spanish accent.
He sang a 2-song Randy Newman medley with Melissa Errico. Beautiful.
He kept spilling his water.

This concert was fabulous and so much fun! My first time at Ars Nova too! I was one of the people on the cancellation line and I was lucky enough to be standing next to the ticket check in area and hear an older man say "I have two, but I just need one!" and I chimed in asking if I could buy the other one and he said, "just stamp her hand!" and wouldn't take my money! What a lucky thing.
I really knew nothing about Mano, only that I loved him in Sweeney Todd. So, I got to learn a lot about him. They played an audio clip over the speakers towards the beginning of his lines in his first performance ever, which was an opera, I believe, and he had to say a few lines in French. He mouthed every word! Heh. He is so unbelievably talented. I loved "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," it sounded great. Him and his a capella group? So sweet.
The entire concert was amazing and I'm so happy to have been there! Go next week if you can!

Personally I was so happy to see Mano and Asa's reunion...They sang a song that Asa wrote.
IM so insanely jealous.
mandy2love - can you tell us more about the song with Asa?
Did manoel play the guitar? What kind of song was it?
Anybody know which 2 randy newman songs were sung?
Just curious!
I'm not mandy, but the song with Asa was sort of an upbeat little number - the harmonies were TIGHT, that was really beautiful.
Asa played Manoel's acoustic guitar, I *think* Manoel might have snagged the bass for that number. The man certainly is talented.
The first words for each sonnet spelled a line from Epiphany..wait...it's coming to me...it was..."I'm full of joy". I'm pretty sure. He used that as an introduction to Michael Cerveris.
Hey, Alli2, I was with you girls last night :p Alli, Alli, Alli and me. lol. Front row!!

Mano posted the Sweeney Todd sonnet on his MySpace. Sweet!

God, I feel like I'm the official Mano ambassador for today.
Anyway, I know some people wanted to know if there would be any clips from the show available. So I asked him, and he told me that both shows will be audio and video recorded, and he plans to post MP3s on his website.
Yay!
:p
Hey Broadwaychica! This is one of the AlliAliAllys from Alli Cubed, here. Guess which one? hehe. This show was incredible. Let me try and think of highlights...
-LOTS of people I knew were there tonight, which was nice. Reunion!
-Mano looked and sounded amazing. He accompanied himself on nearly every song, either playing INCREDIBLE guitar, Bass, Violin or the "Air Bass" for that beatles thing.
-Sondheim was there, and laughed at the sonnett.
-Michael wore a tie for Mano. Mano made fun of his guitar strap.
-Asa stole Mano's guitar pick.
-The song 'Hidden Sky' from the show of the same name was one of the most amazing songs. I need to hear more from that show!
-Kept spilling his water, and said "Don't give me a gig!"
-He did this whole story about his dad and an Escher staircase (the one that goes up and down in a circle and never ends) and showed random pictures of the staircase, and then had some really wierd music playing over the speakers (and the some Bach).
-College acapella group reunion!
-Is there an instrument that Mano DOESN'T play?
-Lots of fun stories and great performances.
-Um... He forgot Alexander Gemignani.
I'm trying to think of things people didn't say...but nothing's really coming. Well, then, until they do. byee from Ally cubed.
yay, Alli cubed!!! lol You're the one who got the free ticket, am I right? :p
"Hidden Sky" was AMAZING!!! I can't get that song out of my head!! It's SOOO good!! I'd LOVE to see/hear the complete score for that musical!!! It's a true gem!
Someone, was it Eden? I can't remember, said something like "Mano plays 40 intruments!" lol, it's almost no exaggeration. He's amazingly talented.

What song from Michael's cd did they sing together?
wow you guys - so much info!
Thanks!
Feel like I was there, almost...
:)
Gypsy2, I'm SO sorry I confused you with the other Alli! lol
:P
No, I'm not the ticket freebie. That's Alli. I'm Ally, with the y. I'm the girl that... is talking to you online right now.
I just felt like i needed to add something to this. Some cuteness between Mano and Michael Cerveris:
Before Michael came on, Mano read his Sweeney Todd sonnet and said something about how there were lots of shaving-related opening gifts. So he and Michael kept amping their guitars up to be louder than eachother, and Michael said "you said you liked the shaving set i gave you" and sounded all pouty. and then Mano made fun of his guitar strap, which was sparkly and had bears on it.

Dear God I love that song....
