Maria E. as Nessarose in the WICKED tour

We had an understudy in for Nessa today. She's supposedly been on a few times this last week because Jenna has been in Paris...or something (until Tuesday). I just wanted to say I LOVED Maria (don't remember her last name) in the role. It's a small role, but she did a great job with it. She has a great...mature voice. She came off as being very bitchy to me (in the Wicked Witch of the East scene)--and her lower register (which she used) made her very intimidating. I LOVED the way she played the scene. Ooh, gave me chills. She was scary, I must say. The show today was great. Not quite as great as opening night (in Dallas), but still great. It wasn't a very good audience this time. Stephanie was great, again. Kendra seemed a little bit bored today. She still did a great job, but she didn't seem as into the role as she did on opening night. Derrick also seemed a little off. The emsemble was great. I LOVE the Wicked Tour ensemble! They're much more professional than the ensemble in NY. The NY cast were lifeless and didn't seem to be taking the show seriously.

Is anyone seeing the show next Sunday?

Oh, and Jenna in Paris? And all this time I was convinced she'd be home in L.A. celebrating the Jewish holidays. *shrug* Paris sounds nicer, minus the jetlag.

i saw maria eberline as rizzo in the european tour of grease. amazing voice!!! pity it was such a cheap production!

OK. I don't see this production until Thursday(and I will post a review), but I will pass on what a few of my friends have told me so far.(They all saw different performances).

Elphaba-Stephanie Block-My friend Jessica thought she was wonderful, but she seemed a little tired vocally, possibly sick. She really enjoyed her performance. My friend Audrey was disappointed after all of the Steph buildup she had gotten. She said she was OK, but she was not great. Aud has a theory that Steph, if not sick, has chosen Dallas as a city in which to rest her voice a little.

Elphaba-Maria Eberline-Meredith thought she was weak. She saw some talent, but just didnt see her as an Elphie.
Kinda wished she had seen Jenna instead.

Glinda-Katie Adams- Jessica thought she was magnificent. Really seemed to grasp the character, with good acting and a clean soprano voice.
Glinda-Emily Rozek-Once again, a great review. Excellent voice, acting. Aud especially liked that she was constantly bouncy when needed. Her only objection was that her comedic timing was a bit off at times.

Nessarose-Lori Holmes-All thought she was passable, but not that great.(On a side note, some of my friends who saw Wicked just so they could be "cool" [after all, they MUST choose the popular {no pun intended} show to be the only musical they have ever seen] told me at school "Oh my gosh! I saw the girl from Sabrina!!" I didn't have the heart to tell them otherwise.)

Fiyero-Derrick Williams-Only Aud said anything, but she didnt like him. She said his dancing was good, but thats all he has to offer.

I'll be sure and post a review when I see it.

Oh Steph is one of the best Elphabas I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. (I have seen 4 different Elphabas)
I jsut relized I asked a question that was anwsered....no more speed reading for me!

Bret - I'm thinking "people who only went to see Wicked to be cool" aren't the most reliable critics. Sounds like you're keeping an open mind about it though so that's good. Enjoy this Thursday and we'll be looking forward to your slightly more educated review :)

I guess I wasn't very clear. The people who I took review bits from are all theatre people, so they actually know something. The trend followers are just friends from school, church, etc. I would not post their opinions here, as some hardly know their Jerry Herman from their Peewee Herman.

Our tickets are for this Saturday's matinee. I am hoping to see Stephanie, but would love to see Jenna as well. Oh, who am I kidding, I am going to love it no matter who is in that day! Nobody will compare to Idina and JLT because they were my "first' Elphaba and Glinda, but it will be wonderful to see it with my daughter.

I was there, too! Very fun, as I had never seen wicked live before. I thought Maria was very convincing as Nessa.

Actually Gretcha... the current rumor being flown around is that Katie will be leaving the tour in January and going to Broadway in the Ensemble/ Glinda u/s spot.

I'm bumping this for the simple fact that 3 people contributing to this thread are going to see the show this week, and all on different days so... Parksy, Bret, dancersmom2... have fun and let us know how the last week in Dallas goes!

I saw Maria as well, she's good but Laura Dysarczyk was much better. Technically speaking there is no comparison. Laura is perfect as Nessa, especially next to Stephanie. Maybe she'll be on for Jenna when you see the show?
