It probably won't sit empty long enough, and the production may not even materialize, but it would be a great home for that oft rumored revival of Beauty and the Beast.

That would a great idea, Beauty and the Beast would have a big enough fanbase to fill that barn up every night. I think?

That's true, and inside is so bland that I am sure if Disney wanted to throw money at it they could do some sort of interior design to reflect the stage design

I would assume that Disney would look into the Marquis, as all their shows (minus Frozen) have been Nederlander houses...which, remind me again why Frozen wasn't in a Nederlander?

Prior to the construction project that is going on at the Palace, there was a lot of back and forth going on regarding whether or not the project could be a thing or not. And, keep in mind, it was initially set to start after American in Paris.
That said, Disney wanted the Palace for Frozen. But, Nederlander was still waffling as to whether or not they could still do the construction project or not. Disney got annoyed with the Nederlander’s waffling back and forth, and eventually told them to either give them an answer or they will take their business elsewhere. That was exactly what they did, hence Frozen being in the St. James

If not Disney’s Beauty and the Beast which I agree would be Inspired and would be perfect in there, like The Lion King is in the the similar theatre the Minskoff.
However the London’s revival of Disney’s Mary Poppins has just received stunning reviews and better notices than the original, mainly due to Charle Stemp who you might remember from Hello Dolly as the polymath Bert, that could easily do well there too.

Here is what should be in the Marquis next- a construction crew. They need to divide the theater into two smaller theaters. If they can move the Palace theater up one story, they can create two 900 seat theaters out this gigantic one. We would get another theater and maybe the curse will be broken.

Posted: 11/15/19 at 8:52pmNice idea but there’s one major difference. The Marquis is in a hotel, the Palace is its own building.

Well, I love cryan71’s idea. Get some architects and engineers to look at its feasibility .... and who knows. The weird way the lobby is divided off from the theatre and the hotel may assist in limiting the disturbance renovation would cause. I think the idea is certainly worth investigation.
I think they have learned their lesson that “modern” theatres don’t do very well, unless they have a very long term occupant like Wicked or Lion King. They could retrodesign the theatres to honor Broadway’s “golden age” in the 1940s and 50s and give the theatre’s synergistic names like the “Gilbert” and the “Sullivan”. I love the idea. I know it’s unrealistic, but great idea cryan71!

I don’t think y’all realize how much goes into a theater. You need wing space, fly space, orchestra pit, backstage, dressing rooms, etc. there’s no way in any world that they’d do that in that space.

Sadly this theatre looks like it is going to be dark this spring. Must be the first time in years there has been an empty Broadway theatre in the spring, as all the dark theatres normally have shows loading in now?
Any rumour what maybe going in? I would have thought it would be a great fit as mentioned for a Disney show, such as Beauty and the Beast, Aida and Mary Poppins or the mentioned West End transfer of Dreamgirls, or failing that a move of Beetlejuice, that is holding up in the grosses especially in the death months.

Ah thanks, must of missed that announcement. Wished I didn’t ask now lol. Broadway seems to be full of jukebox musicals now.

A revival of Victor/Victoria!!
It was the very first Broadway show I saw on my first trip to NYC, and the Marquis was my first Bway theater. Yeah I know most people disliked the show but it’s a very special memory for me.
