Not only Piel's but reviews for GYPSY (I wonder how this production will be received, if it's the critically-acclaimed event they hope it is, then I'd expect nods for Leigh Ann Larkin's daring work as June and Benanti's brilliant portrayal of Louise), SOUTH PACIFIC (Bloody Mary earned Juanita Hall her Tony Award), and the other new shows.

While I love Larkin's fresh interpretation of June, I have a hard time believing they'd nominate her. I would LOVE if they nominated Marilyn Caskey for a real scene/number stealing performance. But that's also doubtful. I wish they would give Caskey Miss Cratchitt to help her chances, but I'm sure Nemetz will be playing it.

She is superb. Completely excellent.
At this point in the season, I would say that she has a decent chance at being remembered come awards season. She's the only supporting member that has a chance.
And for the record, when I saw it this past Saturday, no one got entrance applause.

Posted: 2/19/08 at 1:28amThat sucks. At the first preview Jenna got entrance applause. But first preview audiences are always VERY enthused, and are usually mostly people familiar with the show.
