Author Steven Gaines has a new book about trying "gay conversion therapy" at Payne Whitney when he was a teen. Among the other patients at the clinic was Richard Halliday, whose wife Mary Martin would regularly come visit, to Gaines' delight. Gaines even describes Halliday going home to "Mother" for a visit, which caused problems.
Speak for yourself. I for one found it interesting. Are you saying that as long as a person is long dead (and in this case one of the musical theatre's leading stars) that their personal life is of no interest? I guess you have no plans of seeing the Florence Foster Jenkins film.
I think Florence Foster Jenkins, as a story to be told on film, is far more interesting to the general public, than Mary Martin's personal life at this point. I'd read the book, though.
What's fascinating to me is the idea that the (still living) author is describing being somewhere for gay conversion therapy, and then having Mary Martin stop by and if that isn't God saying, "No, you're gay, it's fine," then I don't know what is.

If Meryl gets another SAG Award nomination I will see it in the interest of fairness before voting. Otherwise, your guess is spot on. It looks too cutesy.
