Matilda or Les Miserables?

I'll be in New York for a week or so around MLK weekend, and have one more night available for theater... The only two shows left (that I have interest in) are Les Mis and Matilda. I have seen Matilda before, but I really enjoyed it and wouldn't mind seeing it again. I've seen other productions of Les Mis and I love the show, but I heard that this production is not excellent...
I already have tickets to multiple other shows during my visit, so I don't really have enough money to see both. I also don't go to NY very often so I really can't see Broadway shows that often.
Which production do you think is worth seeing?

I've seen both and would rather see Matilda again, but don't know how I'd answer if I hadn't seen les miz. Sure there is nothing else you have interest in? Sometimes my favourite shows end up being the ones I take a risk seeing (e.g. BRIDGES).

Well I'd be open to seeing other shows... I did look around but I just didn't find anything of interest. Again, I do have tickets to quite a few other shows too and I am seeing (or have already seen) most mainstream shows.

I think Matilda is a little more unique...so probably worth the trip. But it also depends on how long ago you saw Matilda. If you haven't see it with Christopher Sieber as Ms. Trunchbull, he's worth the trip. And Matilda is such a great part - seeing a different actress is always a different experience.

I liked this production of Les Mis more than some - but its not anything I would race to go see again. Its just kind of ordinary.

I really liked the new production of Les Miz, I thought it was very underrated by the naysayers on this board, while they didn't like it, it still got some pretty good reviews from critics, so I wouldn't rule it out.

This is a hard decision because in my opinion, these two shows offer two completely different kinds of theater experience. As much as I love Les Miserables, I think I would go with Matilda... I saw both shows on Broadway this year, and just enjoyed Matilda much more. But again, this could be due to the fact that I was over-exposed to Les Miserables in recent years, what with the movie and the 25th year anniversary concert and all.

If Ramin is in the performance see Les Mis. Otherwise Matilda is by far the better choice. Plus it is the better show. I do agree that Les Mis is much better then others on his board seem to think.

I would say LES MIZ is the better choice as I found MATILDA to be dreadful. But, the new LES MIZ is a real stunner. I did not think I would like it without that original staging on the turntable and I had seen how they changed the staging to accommodate the lack of the turntable and was not impressed. But the staging has definitely been improved and the cast outstanding, especially Ramin. I thought I had been all LES MIZed out over the decades but I would go back to see this one again.

You've seen Matilda already on Broadway but not Les Mis... So, see Les Mis but with Ramin will make the experience again worthwhile.

So far.. (if I counted correctly) 6 for Matilda and 6 for Les Mis?
Also, Les Mis is like $60 cheaper than Matilda for a similar seat...

Matilda is worth the $60 more. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Matilda every time. I went last night, to Les Mis. I thought it was a travesty of the original production. It is now, only a money making pastiche of the original. Having seen what a mess, he had made of Miss Saigon. It confirms to me, Laurence Conner should not be allowed to direct traffic, let alone theatre.

My vote is Matilda. Les Mis is Les Mis. There will always be a production of it somewhere.

I listened to the cast recording again, and I remembered everything I love about the show. Also, Les Mis will always be playing somewhere :)
