Matilda tix help- TKTS, Lottery, or Telecharge?

Hi guys!

I know I don't post much on here but was just wondering if someone could help me out.

I am planning on making my first trip to Broadway/NYC in early January and am planning on seeing as many shows as I can in a 3-4 day period.

The biggest question I am debating with myself over is what to do about a Matilda ticket? Assuming the show is extended once again past the 3rd of Jan., I adore the music and am really excited to see the show but I am also trying to find the best value for this particular show.

TKTS: I've noticed that Matilda has been listed on TKTS in recent months (many times for 50% off) but I also have heard that if you really want to see a show you should buy a ticket in advance. However, the frequency at which the show is offered and the lure of 40-50% off a high level ticket is alluring.

Lottery: I see Matilda has a lottery for $27 a ticket and I've read that it's not too difficult to win during the week or during off periods. I've also read the seats are a bit partial view though and that concerns me for my first viewing of a show I'm dying to see. Thoughts?

Telecharge: I'm also tempted just to buy a cheaper ticket up in the balcony once they go on sale for my dates and call it a day. However, I'd hate to spend the money on a high up balcony ticket and miss some of the stage if I can possibly spend just a bit more and get a really good/great seat through TKTS.

As you can see, I'm having a hard time planning and figuring this out. What do you think my best value/bet would be? If it helps, I'm planning on seeing the show the night I arrive in NYC which would be a Tuesday night.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Also, they currently have a discount on broadwaybox that is valid until November 1. I'm sure it will extend closer to the time, as I saw the same discount for last January when I was in NYC.

Partial view towards the front of the theatre is fantastic. Plus, it's exciting to be so close to some of the actors during their exits offstage. They also do standing room and sometimes "lottery loser" seats. I really reccomend orchestra for this show, a lot goes on down there.

I have never had a lottery seat at Matilda that was not a good seat..yeah maybe you can't see a portion of the set at times and you may miss a few seconds of an actor here or there. But for the most part, you get a pretty close up view and are able to see faces, expressions, etc...better than if you bought a cheap seat elsewhere.

The majority of the lottery seats are on the sides of the orchestra and yes - a lot goes on in the aisles, so it's fun to be there..

I did the lottery the 2 nd week it was offered and won. got great seats and the partial view was not bad. could see almost the whole stage. everything in the show is front and center. so unless you care about seeing the whole set, do lottery then TKTS.

Can I ask where the lottery seats usually are? We have 2 tickets on row A at the far aisle. There is a row AA but no seats right infront of us. But am now wondering if lottery chairs are added there? Or are lottery seats simply ones they haven't sold?

"Fisherman, I know I probably should know this, but who is your profile picture of?"

You don't know who Jerry Orbach is?!!! For shame. Your Broadway Fan Card has now been revoked! That is just Broadway sacrelige!

MMFAN - I don't think they usually sell them as lottery (unless they don't sell). Those seats are often snapped up quite quickly. (BTW - Those are awesome seats!)

^^ That is correct. Those are not lottery seats as a rule.

The lottery seats are a little further back - also to the side but the majority are far left or right maybe rows F-M? or around there..

I think you will appreciate being able to see a lot of expressions and faces close up.

Thanks. Wasn't sure if the rush seats they gave away were like the lottery seats in Rent (i.e. front row)
