Isn't Max busy with the Xanadu tour?
Is that still going on?
I think Josh Young reads too ethnic to play Tony? Don't you think? Especially in a revival that is all about the two camps.
I agree. He definitely looks less anglo than Josefina Scaglione.
I was wondering about the Xanadu tour, too!
The tour has dates in 2010 but the website doesn't have a cast list
I think Max Von Essen and Josh Young were brought up in this thread more to state that their voices are perfect for Tony. I have heard both of them (only snippets of Josh, though) and the heart leaps to hear them sing those song.
Their names were not brought up in this thread to ascertain their availability. It was simply to say they make the songs sound good, whereas Matt's nasal New England sound is woefully wrong for the songs.

I'm not a fan of Max's voice, granted that is based off one clip. It's him singing "Proud Lady" from "The Baker's Wife." He just seems so strained and like he's working so hard when it's not a difficult song to sing.
As for Josh Young, his voice is beyond beautiful and he'd be perfect in a concert setting or something.

PJ-
It's funny that you describe Matt's voice as New England when he was born and raised in Arkansas. In fact, two of my friends from college bought cars from his dad's dealership.
Was that an Arkansas accent he was using?

To be honest, I haven't listened...he may be doing a New England...but I felt there was some Arkansas twang to Matt in Catered Affair and Grey Gardens, so I assumed it would carry over.

It was just Joe Kennedy. Perhaps he has a stage voice and no one has ever told him?
I saw Matt H when he went on a couple of months back. I thought he was much much better than Matt C.
Its kind of odd how I didnt like the show the first time, yet with Matts understudy I really enjoyed it alot.
(Maybe im over thinking it :p..)
However, heres to me hoping Matt H gets it.
I enjoyed the show more with Matt H as well. But I think it was only partly because I had a better Tony. I think it was also because I already knew what the shows flaws were so I couldn't be let down
They are still auditioning for the replacement of Tony. My good friend goes in next week for his third callback with Arthur Laurents.

maybe instead of Josh and Max they could find someone who ACTUALLY looks like they might have been the leader of a gang of kids from NYC.
Just once can they cast a guy who is over 5'10? Maybe? A guy who looks like he could actually kick some ass?
They are having open auditions for Maria and Tony on November 2nd. They are looking for Broadway replacements and for the upcoming tour.

the average male in the US is 5'8-9". cars are designed around this very principle. surely everyone on this board knows that the actual book describes tony as a sandy haired boy. and surely everyone here has seen the movie a bronx tale. there is a big big difference between the teen toughs and the actual mafiosa (the latter are scary folks, the former just punks). most teenage "gangsta" types in real life come across as just that--punks. they're really not scary, IMO, unless they way outnumber you.
I feel bad for Matt -- it sucks not being renewed and I hope he's come to terms with the fact that this is probably better for all parties involved. He can at least be free of the tyrannical Arthur Laurents.
Arthur tyrannical to Matt? Hasn't Arthur been Matt's greatest defender?
