Over the summer when Wicked was touring L.A., I saw Stephanie win the lottery. Yep, even they can't get tickets for their own show at times. Pretty crazy, eh?
Edited to add: She was playing to help get friends in to see her.

I saw Eden Espinosa at the Wicked lottery about a month ago...she too was helping friends. But my friend won, and since we already had tickets to the show for that night (we were only lotto-ing to try to get front row seats) we ended up selling our tickets to Eden's friends. Eden seemed very nice.
I also met Tracy Miller back in October at the Wicked lottery. She was trying to get tickets for her sister and nephew. Needless to say we all lost.
I don't think there's anything wrong with an actor playing the lotto, especially at a show like Wicked where you have to buy tickets months in advance. Besides, actors are people too.

"hey, i loved you in the show you were just in. but i'm winning this, not you."

I don't see how Matthew Morrison playing the Wicked lotto is any different than someone who isn't an actor playing the Wicked lotto...I highly doubt that EVERYONE who plays the lotto does so solely because of financial constraints. So just because he's an actor means he should be paying top price for a show?
I've had an actor friend help me with thier own lotto before...which I think also isn't any different than having a non-actor friend help with lotto.

Dont the Wicked cast get house seats? Or is it such a big fat hit that they dont even get the freebies!

Ooooh you're GRAVELY mistaken. No one gets freebies. House Seats are never free. House seats are full-price, they're just "reserved" for performers, producers, etc. But no, they are not free, they are the full price of all the rest of the seats around them.
And Matt may very well be at the lottery. Who wants to pay $100 for a show, when they can pay $25?

i think all performing unions should get some kind of broadway discount by showing your equity card. its research after all!
at least its tax deductable! MOST actors are out of work and poor...all others are the exception! sad but true!

Posted: 4/20/06 at 10:52amIt's not uncommon. This past Summer Mary Bond Davis was at lotto, and the Wicked ensemble members do it all the time.

Isn't it just something fun to do?
Like, see if you win the lottery or go to the movies.
And doesn't it just mean he's lucky?

Wow...I never knew that house seats needed to be paid for. I always thought it was a perk that the performers got. I figured that not every cast member would get an equal amount. I think I thought that everyone was entitled to a certain number per month, but I always thought they were free.

Michele Federer managed to get me and my friend house seats for a birthday gift, yet its assured we paid 100 per seat. No different, just nicely reserved seats.
I would have died if I was lottoing amongst distinguished names lol

Posted: 4/20/06 at 1:04pmA Miss Saigon lead gave me a house seat they had received as a comp when they stepped in for the role, but it is rare, and it was very sweet.

Posted: 4/20/06 at 1:08pmHouse seats aren't always comped. My aunt is friends with one of the company managers from Jersey Boys and although we got amazing house seats, we had to pay for them.

Posted: 4/20/06 at 1:33pmHouse seats to Wicked are NEVER comped. Not even for whoever's playing Elphaba or Glinda. They are regular price, which now I believe is $110. Maybe at other shows they might make occasional exceptions, but not at Wicked.
