Posted: 3/14/07 at 2:05amRe your Sullivan tapes with time code - I'm afraid they're all dupes of dupes of dupes of my copy. When I first got these (I knew someone who was involved with the transfers and they made me a complete set), I refused to make copies for anyone, because I thought it would be a breach of trust. A well-known B'way columnist who is known for collecting these things badgered me for six months until I could stand it no more. I made this person swear on a stack of Bibles that they would go no further than his home and he assured me that was the case. I made him the tapes. I think you know the rest - he immediately made copy after copy so he could trade for other rarities he "had" to have. I lost all respect for this gentleman, and I like to think that karma has taken care of him but good.

I didn't get the tapes thru trades--I don't really have the time to trade tapes. It was a gift from a nice person back when i was 14--so over 10 years back on a castrecording listserv who knew I'd appreciate them--I wasn't even charged for the cost of shipping and they look pretty high quality/high gen to me
The thigns you say about "traders" holding on to some titles and then trading other titles they say they won't etc is why the whole "system" gets me too annoyed to deal with--and I'm sure this is getting way too off topic...
Though Mmy tapes were lacking anything from Promises Promises even though nearly every other Ed Sullivan Broadway performance i could think of or heard of thru the whole span of the show was there

You can see the Turkey Lurkey clip - with commentary by Seth Rudetsky - on "the site that shall not be named". Just search for "Rudetsky" and "Turkey"

Looks like the full clip is back up.
And thanks to McKechnie and Bennett I woke up with horrible lower back and neck pains this morning. I spent hours last night trying to Turkey Lurkey.

"Turkey Lurkey Time" is back! Seems the clip that had that account cancelled earlier was that rare Gwen Verdon clip from The Ed Sullivan Show. They monitor ALL clips from The Ed Sullivan Show it seems, so careful.

Posted: 3/19/07 at 11:41amI get goosebumps every time I see that number. Nothing short of A-MAY-ZING!! They missed the boat on a revival of this show when there was a '60s resurgence in the '90s.

Posted: 3/19/07 at 12:42pmI saw it at ENCORES. I think it was in '97 or '98. I believe REPRISE did a concert version the same year with Jason Alexander. The first CD release of the OBC came out a short while after. Bacharach's music was enjoying a resurgence around this time.

Posted: 3/19/07 at 3:06pmSO good to see that choreography again! I did that number in a Christmas review back in the late 90's and it kicked all of our asses. It ended Act I and literally as the curtain came down we all rushed to the wings to vomit in trash cans that they had set up for us dancers. Killer!!!

Yeah without the dancing you really miss much of the appeal of the song on the recording--I agree the late 90s with the Bacharach revival woulda been ideal for a revival--but people seemed underwhelmed with the two concert versions....

I was surfing YouTube tonight and happened across this lovely video of Donna performing "Do I Hear A Waltz" early in her career:

I'm not sure whether that's been posted on BWW and I missed it, but I thought some people might want to see it. Sorry to bump an old thread (but at least it's a good one -- a lot of fun to reread!).
