NY City Center just sent me an email that says it runs 2 hours and 15 minutes!

I wish I could see this and hope it gets a successful Broadway transfer.  The show is such a delightful pre-Golden Age revisal much like Crazy for You and deserves a big, splashy production with first-rate performers.  I like Christian Borle, but I just don't see him in this role (honestly, I'd prefer a British actor, but whatevs).

This is a snippet from the 1939 London production, filmed by the BBC.  In the late 1960s when I was stationed on a US Navy ship in Scotland, I went to an event where we formed a sort of conga line and danced to "The Lambeth Walk".  It has been a favorite piece of music for me ever since.

I was there last night and really enjoyed myself. Yes, the show is the fluffiest of fluff. The plot is as conflict-free as they come, but who’s complaining when it’s all just an excuse for some catchy tunes and great dancing?

The orchestra was in extra tip-top shape; the overture absolutely soared! The performances were all quite good, and it was nice to see Lisa O’Hare again. You wouldn’t know it from Gentleman’s Guide, but she’s a fantastic dancer. Borle was having lots of fun; Harriet Harris was playing it so hilariously to the hilt that they felt her performance in Staten Island.

This is the type of show one should see after having a rotten day. Escapist fun that will shake your troubles away.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

After seeing a couple of regional productions of this throughout the years and having a great time - I can only imagine the excitement and energy with this outstanding cast!!  Would love a transfer!  Why do haters got to hate??  It's a fluff musical open your dark hearts!  HA AHA H AHA

Oh whizzed, that makes me so happy to hear! I’ve had such a rotten week and seeing this tomorrow night will hopefully make up for that.

I had no idea footage of the 1939 production existed. That's so fun to see.

Jesse Green not only dislikes the show, he seems to be arguing against the entire mission of Encores:

"It’s not fair to hold Encores! accountable for the buried history of the material it produces. And surely part of the Encores! mission is to serve as a museum of cultural expression, including deeply imperfect examples.... By definition, Encores! must always walk that tightrope. Shows like “Me and My Girl,” cheery yet sour, make me wonder whether the upside is worth it."

Not surprising. I disagree with Jesse Green the majority of the time.
