The 2026 Edinburgh Fringe will be hosting three Heated Rivalry parodies. The Off-Broadway musical, a drag king parody, and another musical by LA's Upright Citizens Brigade. We have another Gatsby / Wild Party situation!Heated Rivalry: The Deeply Unauthorized Musical Parody - Upright Citizens Brigade

THE LOST BOYS Reviews

Saw this yesterday. I liked the score in act one better than most. But agree about act two. There are too many similar songs repeating information we already learned. I’d have traded two of mom’s Dear Evan Hansen solos for the chance to learn something about the other vampire musicians.

Has Anyone Caught the HEATED RIVALRY Parody Musical?

I enjoyed this. Yes I’d like something with more satirical bite. But Jimin Moon is adorable and the ensemble kept me laughing. The disappointment, oddly, was Ilya. The actor’s great but the abridged script cuts his humor and character arc. Ilya was the breakout star of the TV show. Here he just feels like the love interest.

It's nice to hear Kristen's voice again. I still enjoy the act one and act two finales. But the album reminds me how little agency Jackie has. Her husband gains, loses and regains a fortune. She squanders it. That's the plot. In the act one finale she insists she'll take control and save Versailles. In act two she makes some half-baked fundraising attempts. But her husband ultimately saves things with his crooked off-stage dealings. I prefer an active protagonist. Jackie, for all her spark, i...

Finally watched the movie. I'd heard the hype about how homoerotic it was. I was disappointed that this boiled down to some flirty looks from Sutherland and flamboyant behavior from Haim. (Plus that Rob Lowe poster). Does the musical make any of these characters openly LGBT+?

Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody

Mar 25, 2026 — 8:18:50 PM

In February a Heated Rivarly musical was announced, starring Zachary Noah Piser and Jay Armstrong Johnson. It was scheduled to perform in March, 2026, at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. I haven't found any further press, promotional images or reviews. The page was removed from the Beechman Theatre website. Did anyone see it? Was it cancelled? Postponed?HEATED RIVALRY Musical Parody Coming to the Laurie Beechman TheatreA Heated Rivalry Musical is Headed Off-Broadway | Playbill

The Outsiders

The tour is impressive. The staging is clever and the cast is strong. I find it a dour show with a samey score. I miss the humor and variety of the similar West Side Story. But then I'm fully aware that I'm older than the target audience. The teen crowd screamed at the curtain call like they were watch rock stars. Two even younger kids were having an animated discussion at intermission on how it compares to the novel. I'm glad they're getting to see this.

The Broadway script was full of holes. I'd hoped the final season of the show would fill the gaps and make it feel like a necessary work. Sadly, it only gets the briefest of nods. Click Here To Toggle Spoiler ContentThe Duffers cut the moment Henry first met the Mindflayer from the play so that they could feature it in the final episode. And, while we see a glimpse of the play in Vecna's memory, we get no word from Patty Newby, the play's co-lead.The play tells us he was once a sweet kid with...

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES To Close January 4, 2026

I saw the musical in Boston. Then watched the documentary. If it gets retooled they need to dial up Fred Siegel's malevolence. In the documentary he was emotionally abusive, and she was afraid of him. It may have been a factor in her hoarder tendencies. The house looked empty on stage. But in the film, she filled it with garbage, animals, feces and a pack of feral children. It was more Grey Gardens than Barbie Dream House.A production where the set becomes more and more cluttered till she's wa...

New Merrily Pro-Shot reviews

I'm impressed by how much Groff brought to the shallow protagonist. And kudos to the actress who did something with dishrag Beth. I wish this story didn't revolve so much around Gussie the femme fatale. She's an absolute cartoon here, making Frank seem stupid for sacrificing everything for her. His friends, on the flip side, are too saintly. The same director found more grit in these roles in her 2013 London production.

Re Drama Teach. Yes, Joyce decides to produce Dark of the Moon instead of the previously announced production of Oklahoma. I'm not sure why this involved passing out fliers for Oklahoma but I'll roll with it.As far as stage actors go, another fan pointed out that Alex Breaux plays Dr. Brenner on Broadway and Lt. Akers in season five. I'm not sure if any other stage actors will be making cameos.

Netflix has posted the first four episodes of Stranger Things: Season Five. I found two brief nods to the events of The First Shadow. Click Here To Toggle Spoiler ContentA flashback to Joyce in high school, passing out flyers for the school play.A reference to a cave that Henry is afraid of. Apparently it was discussed in more detail in the play in London. But was cut to just a sentence or two when I saw it on Broadway. The Duffers seem to be saving its significance for the final episodes.

Immersive AMERICAN PSYCHO Premiering 2025 In Brooklyn?

Sep 13, 2025 — 9:26:16 AM

Reviews of the Houston production don't say much about the new rewrites. Though I was surprised by this comment: ""A Girl Before," a wry send-up of showtune tropes.""If We Get Married" and "Nice Thought" had satirical elements. But "A Girl Before" was a sincere (slightly dull) ballad in the version I saw. I'm curious to know if the lyrics have been tweaked.A reborn 'American Psycho' is garish, vulgar and a must-see masterpiece at Houston Broadway TheatreI'm not sure what they mean by softenin...

What is the state of Broadwayworld now in 2025?

Aug 29, 2025 — 2:48:16 PM

I still enjoy the Show threads that analyze the books and scores of new works. Reddit will tell me whether a show is popular. But Broadwayworld will tell me what works and why. I also appreciate the folks who report the way a show changes in tryouts and previews.

Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil - Broadway?

Jul 24, 2025 — 10:12:26 AM

If they’re going to keep the focus on Chablis they’ll have to write her a proper story and character arc. In Chicago we just had two+ hours of her telling us how fabulous she was. She could have been the Velma to Jim’s Roxie. But they rarely interacted. The book kept her in a separate show. The film found a way to get her in the court room.

Finally saw this. I agree with many others here. Louis McCartney is heartbreaking. He could play a proper arc if the script would let him. I can spot the issues when I compare it to something like Stephen King’s Carrie. That story gives Carrie’s relationships with her bullies, mother and love interest a set up and a pay off. It builds to a cathartic finale. The First Shadow can’t do that. The set up was in Season four and finale can’t happen till season five. So the play is stuck in the middl...

Jesse Green NYT's Critic's Pick review of

Jul 19, 2025 — 4:20:05 AM

I enjoyed the play. Though the mix of p*rnography and TED talk took adjusting to. The speech where the Prince justified his sex life to the King was one of the script’s best moments.I liked the series Young Royals and the film Red White and Royal Blue. But felt both stories existed in a bubble. I was interested in the public reaction to a gay Royal. The show’s suggestion that class crossing and interracial relationships are more controversial today than same-sex ones was surprising. I don’t k...

42 Balloons

The cast was strong but the book pulled its punches. The second act put the blame for Larry’s breakdown on the media. It skimmed over his mental health issues and refused to put any blame on his enabling girlfriend.

Sweet Charity Ending Question

Jun 30, 2025 — 10:13:40 AM

I saw a regional production where Oscar says he’s leaving her. She pushes him into the lake. Then says the line about still having her dowry and dancing off. Knowing that director, I’m guessing this was an unauthorized change.
