The composer Nick Blaemire is extremely nice and was wonderful in Cry-Baby. What a smile.

Posted: 4/12/08 at 12:26amLol, I had the opposite reaction than you Foster. All but 1 look far too old for being just out of high school.

30? That's a stretch. It's theatre. Kelli O'Hara was supposed to be early 20's in Light in the Piazza and Matthew Morrison was supposed to be 19. That's about a year out of college right? They both looked about 35. Jonathan Groff is 22 and playing a 15 or 16 years old.

I'm rather indifferent about how they look.
I just hope they did some rewrites after the Signature run. the score would be nothing without Jesse Vargas helping out!
I just didn't connect with the material. But whatever floats your boat.
Booth and Call are fantastic performers. Wish all of these youngsters the best of luck.

Posted: 4/12/08 at 6:27amGetupandliveit- I think why most people are concerned about their ages is because the show is basically all about age. It relies so heavily on the fact that they are all nineteen and twenty, and a year out of college. It's what the show is about.

The cast of SPRING AWAKENING all appear to be around 16 years old, no matter their original age.
Kelli and Matt looked about 25 - not 35. Katie Clarke looked about 21.
These boys look about 29/30 in a show about 18/19.

Posted: 4/12/08 at 9:32am25? 25???? What 25 year olds do you know that look like Kelli O'Hara?? And I don't know any 16 year old that look like Jonathan or Lea. The majority of the cast of Spring Awakening are the same age as these boys and have to play younger. I have no problems with the casting choices in Piazza or Spring Awakening. It's on a stage and I will buy (and did buy) whatever age they say they are.

The majority of the cast of Spring Awakening is still in high school. Many of them are leaving at the end of this summer to go to college. Groff is 22, Lea Michelle is about the same age, and Bashoff is a little older (24, I think?).
With the exception of Jesse JP Johnson, none of these actors legitimately look a year out of high school.

Posted: 4/12/08 at 10:51amThey never mention age in Spring Awakening. It's a given that they're young, but most people who see it don't get how young they're actually supposed to be.

They are basically supposed to have just gone through puberty and are still in school. I think that's obvious in the script.

Did anyone actually see this at Signature?
#22re: Meet the Cast of GLORY DAYS!
Posted: 4/12/08 at 11:11amYeah, there are a few of us that did see it at Signature. Search the other threads for some viewpoints. Some hated it (including me) some loved it. It is probably going to be one of those divisive shows.

I'm in with Chenowethfan on this one.
Getup&liveit - I agree that SOME of the cast looks a bit old, but it's not that unrealistic.
Not sure if the casting team did it on purpose but the National Tour cast is actually comprised of basically all high school and college kids. Happy now?

ITA. Get ready for some major heated discussions when this thing opens. (BTW, I also hated it.)
Booth and Call are fantastic performers.
I've never seen Call in anything else, but in GD, I thought he really overacted and was not the least bit believable. But this could have been partly due to the bad writing. At least he's really hot. The show didn't hold my interest very much, but his pecs sure did.
