#0Meeting the same actor twice?
Posted: 6/19/06 at 12:37pmI'm sure people have stage- doored the same show twice with the same cast. My question is... what do you say to someone you have met before and maybe had a little conversation with the next time you see them? Get them to sign your playbill again? Do you mention the fact that you met them before? It seems like it would be awkward to me. I don't know... just thinking out loud.

Well it's not exactly required that you meet an actor once - even twice - or that you speak to them either times.
And if you do - an actor is still a person. What would you say to a PERSON if you were meeting them for the second time?

I don't know. I think stage dooring once is enough. You've given your kudos, you've gotten the autograph. They've just done a show, they're tired, they probably want to rest their voice. But that's me. I'm weird that way.
If you're going to get something different, say a picture, then just ask for the photo. If the actors recognize you (I'm sure they see tons of people but you never know) they might intentionally go for people they don't recognize to make sure they get a chance.

A lot of times it depends on the actor. Some are fantastic with remembering fans and conversations, others just don't. Keep in mind how many fans they meet. I say see how the actor reacts. If he/she seems to remember you, cool. If he/she seems not to, I'd say just pretend you're meeting them again for the first time. I feel bad if I say well we met before, like it comes across that I'm upset they don't remember, but I totally understand that they don't.
Munk, I wouldn't count on it, but there are a few actors that are fantastic with remembering people. It IS possible.

I stagedoored "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" twice when I was in London, but both instances were in the same week. David Harbour was meeting friends the night I went, so I came back later in the week to get his autograph and let him know how fantastic he was. Bill Irwin recognized my bright green coat and was very friendly, engaging in a brief conversation while I waited for David to come out.
That being said, I don't know if I would stage door the same show twice with the exact same cast unless it was a similar circumstance. I guess I just don't really see the point.

I`ve met many actors twice and even more times! But the only one who remembered me without having to say anything was Felicia Finly (She remembered me because of my hair!)

In my experiences, it's the "flops" that usually have cast members who remember you. Melissa Errico remembered me every time I saw Dracula, which I did enjoy. Hugh Panaro remembered me when I saw Lestat for a 2nd time (took a friend for his birthday....he actually LIKED it.)
Someone like Julia Roberts will never remember you. Nathan Lane, either. Many actors in the hit shows don't even look at you. If they do, it's for the fleeting second.
When I do stage door more than once, I say the same thing I've said before..."It's my second time here, it's a great show..."

Obviously, but this is not the point. I have never done it twice and was just curious as to what people say.

Posted: 6/19/06 at 1:01pmi got teased by emily rozek when i saw her as glinda in wicked, since i also saw her as millie in tmm. I mentioned it when she signed my poster and she went "wow hun you've got dumb luck when it comes to my shows"

Posted: 6/19/06 at 1:07pmI went to 3penny twice in a week and the only one I met twice was Alan Cumming. I took another pic with him and I just asked him things I had wanted to ask the first time. I told him I was there the previous Saturday, but he obviously hadn't remembered, which is totally understandable.

It's just an individual thing. I don't think there's any like...way to try to say who will remember you, flops or no flops. Some actors are just better with it than others.
Right, you could always just say, it's my second time, I loved it still, etc.

I think if you see a show more than once, it's totally fine to stage door it. Every performance is different, and something special might have happened at that performance for you to say to the actors "wow, I really appreciated that." or "that really moved me." or even "I've never noticed that before".
Just don't expect them to remember you. Depending on the actor, they might.

Posted: 6/19/06 at 1:36pmwhat I do so I don't sound like an idiot "OMG this is my 2nd time i luv this show remember me?" I bring the photo that I took the last time and ask them to sign it.... that way you get a unique autographed picture and they will automatically know you have met them/seen the show before

They are people, too. Things change and happen and they work hard and there are lots of ups and downs in their lives. They meet lots of people on a daily basis.
The time that has lapsed between the meetings makes a differnence as well, as my two stories may demonstrate.
I like Hugh Jackman, but my friend *LIKES* Hugh if you know what I mean. When we went to see BOY FROM OZ, Kevin let us backstage and we took a picture, got him to sign and spoke with him. It was VERY nice. But my friend being my friend, she wanted to go back the next night. So we did. And he remembered her, but not me.
Nathan Lane & Matthew Broderick are great guys. LOVE THEM. I have spoken with them both at various stage doors many times. Neither of them remembered me at any time
But it had been years- their original and return runs in THE PRODUCERS and in January of this at THE ODD COUPLE- and I understood and expected it.
Biggest thing is: Don't take it personally

Posted: 6/19/06 at 2:02pmWhen I went to see I Love You Because, I was talking to Stephanie, told her how good she was and asked if she felt something was missing (puppet)- she got my drift and said "I'm glad you liked it, [my name.] Was I surprised! Now, I've met her at the Q stage door on more than 1 occasion but I was impressed- she even specifically remembered me giving her (and the Q crew) a gift.

BarretT is great!! I've talked to him for a while before. He'll sign and take pictures...very friendly.
Sometimes he does have to run but that's just a normal thing that happens. (like once I think he had to go to a wedding so he couldn't stay to take pictures and sign)
Edit: Notice the double T at the end of BARRETT
