Megan Hilty

Is she an alto? I just watched the Wicked clip and she seemed to have a really really low voice.

re: Megan Hilty

I competed in last year's NSAL competition with her and if I remember correctly, she had a very "mixy" type of voice. Or at least that's what she showed in the competition. She won, by the way.

re: Megan Hilty

she can hit all the soprano notes in wicked, but she also has this really nice mix to her sound that makes it more grounded and "full" than cheno.

re: Megan Hilty

At CMU, she did Queenie in LaChiusa's Wild Party, and was absolutely brilliant, as I hear.

For those that only know Lippa's... LaChiusa's Queenie is a lower, vampier, lower alto part.

I think I just made up the word 'vampier'.
Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

re: Megan Hilty

She can go really low and really high. I saw her last Sunday and she hit this opera-like note at the end of "No One Mourns the Wicked." She just elt out a really high "Wicked!!!" after everyone else stopped, it was amzing. Also, she hits the optional Cheno note at the end of Thank Goodness.

re: Megan Hilty

She is so young and such an accomplished performer. She's great in Wicked, but I'm really looking forward to seeing her work in the years to come!

re: Megan Hilty

i wondered the same thing. when she first came down in the bubble i was like "ok, shes singing it like an alto." then she hit the high operatic note at the end and i thought "ok, she can hit it." and all of her popular was a lot lower, too. so i still thought "ok, shes still singing it as an alto." then in thank goodness she started to go up a bit higher, so im thinking "ok." then she hit that cheno note at the end and i was like "whoa, shes amazing."

some people will hate me for this, but i REALLY perfer her over JLT in the role, from clips i saw on broadway.com of JLT. and i have a question about JLT, what songs can i listen to clips of to hear her in urinetown? b/c i wanna hear how different she sounds in that than in the role of glinda, which like i said i didnt care for her. most people love her, so im assuming she was great in urinetown. you can post or PM, but any help would be great, thanks! re: Megan Hilty

re: Megan Hilty

I haven't seen her as Glinda, but I fell in love with her at the Katrina Benefit. She did Alto's Lament and was wonderful. I'm going to try to see Wicked again in late January/early February.

re: Megan Hilty

re: Megan Hilty

Are you sure that Megan's leaving. I was almost positive that she was staying. I know that Shoshana, Ben, Michele (supposively), and maybe David Ayers and Jeffrey Kuhn are leaving, but I was fairly certain that Rue and Megan were staying.

re: Megan Hilty

Megan is not leaving in January. She signed a year contract that's up in May.

Leaving January 8th: Shoshana Bean, Rue McClanahan, Ben Vereen, Michelle Federer, and most likely David Ayers.

re: Megan Hilty

oh, ok. sorry about that! thanks for the correction.

PS-what songs on the urinetown CD do JLT sing?

re: Megan Hilty

I love that I'm going on January 8th. I've heard mixed things about everyone who's leaving, so hopefully, since it's their last show, they'll all be really good.

re: Megan Hilty

JLT sang mainly "Follow Your Heart" with Hunter Foster and "I See a River". She is then featured in other songs on the CD.

What is the optional Cheno note that she hits at the end of "Thank Goodness"? Is it the C, or is it something higher?

re: Megan Hilty

thanks theonlyone! to answer your question, i think the optional cheno note is a B flat. i just checked my music book at that parts not in it (gah!). but i remember asking my friend and he said it was a B flat. ill double check though just to be sure. re: Megan Hilty

I thought it was something like an E or an F.

re: Megan Hilty

Rue has said she would like to renew if they ask her to.

Hopefully she does, so when I see her - we will have a good Elphaba, and Rue will have completely grown in the role.

re: Megan Hilty

i get a sneaking feeling that rue's not getting renewed, much like david she seems to do well enough but is nowhere near ideal.

Megan on the other hand can stay there forever as far as i'm concerned

When I won the lottery, sitting front row center, I could see Alex looking down and laughing with people in the pit when Rue would screech or attempt to sing. No, I am not lying.

re: Megan Hilty

Megan Hilty not only hits KC's top note in No One Mourns...(a Bb), but far surpasses it at an E.

Incase you didn't know, that's Christine's highest note in Phantom, and Megan does that E better than a LOT of Christines I've heard.

re: Megan Hilty

ljay...i doubt Rue will be ever good as a singer though.
