Although not confirmed, it's was said that Mullally and Mantello were having issues with each other. I'm not surprised. I have heard over the years that Joe Mantello may be difficult.
My question is why would anyone have him direct a comedy? With "Love, Valour, Compassion" being the exception, look what he did to "The Odd Couple", "9 to 5", and even McNally's own "Frankie and Johhnie"!
What's funny about Joe Mantello?
He did fine by McNally's "The Ritz". Lips Together isn't exactly a full blown comedy either.
I saw her in H2S as well as Young Frankenstein, and she never blew me away. I actually have never given her a second thought. Karen Ziemba anyone?
The Loretta Swit line gave me a big laugh...out loud...thanx!

"Stanley, if you could make your butt hole more visible to downstage right, FindingNamo, will be squealing in the orchestra. Thank you."
That's the stage direction I always imagined Mr Mantelo made just for me while working on Frankie & Johnny.
