This is exciting!! I'm a huge fan of her.
I'm happy to see Terrence McNally doesn't harbor any ill will toward Mullally over what happened with LIPS TOGETHER, TEETH APART. She's an incredible talent and will kill in this.
I assume she's playing Julia, the producer.
Probably, but she would be a really interesting Virgina Noyes as well. I'm very excited for this production.
Good for all involved. I just read the play and don't see what's so funny? Everyone in the cast running around screaming while they wait for opening night reviews. Just don't see the funny in it. Perhaps the cast can rise above the material?

It's pretty incredible McNally would have her back in another of his plays. As discussed in another thread recently, perhaps that whole situation with TEETH was indeed misportrayed, and wasn't entirely her fault after-all.
Or he is just very generous.
There was A LOT that went on with TEETH. A lot. It wasn't just one woman being a diva.
I love this play and think it's a riot. But it is very much a game of insider baseball.
GottaHaveAGimmick, McNally has said he's doing work to revise and update the play, so this version won't be entirely reflective of the published script.
Has a theater or a start date been announced?

Maybe it's Megan that's being the generous one. I understand Mr McNally wasn't too nice with any of that cast.
What is the real story about LIPS TOGETHER, TEETH APART?
I know Megan quit and they had to stop production on the show, but what's the inside story about this one?
Will this take the Lyceum after Realistic Joneses closes?
Damn, I would love to see her, but I have 0 interest in seeing Matthew Blahderick give his same, tired performance yet again.
Would imagine with this cast they will opt for a bigger house? A mid-size?
The basic story according to Wikipedia is a follows:
" On March 24, 2010, Mullally left the production two weeks into rehearsals when Mantello denied her request that Oswalt be replaced due to his lack of stage experience. The revival was postponed on March 25, 2010, with artistic director Todd Haimes stating that "they could not find a way to maintain the production schedule under these circumstances"; the production was canceled soon afterwards."
Insiders stated though Mullally was terrified of the show getting panned, after the diaster that was Young Frankenstein. She saw Lips Apart Teeth Together as a chance to redeem herself and turn her carear around. At the time she was still trying to escape the role of Karen as well, which she thought would once again be derailed by Oswalt's hammy performance.
If i had to guess McNally did not "love" Oswalt's take on the character either, but he did not have casting power. it was the show's Broadway debut 20 years after its Off- Broadway premiere and he was lucky Roundabout had agreed to mount the production. Unfortunatly for the two of Mullally though Oswalt although not a household name is recognizable enough, from his King of Queens days and commedic sidekick roles to sell tickets, as the how couldn't be sold on Mullally's name alone.
Mullally is a fine actress and shes worked hard to rebuild her reputation in New York. After all we all expected a revival of Guys and Dolls to be built around her after her perfomace as Adelaide, in a concert production.

Yeah and Wikipedia is such a mine of correct factual information!!! The short story is that the directors behaviour in rehearsals was such that it became intolerable. When approached the Roundabout management didn't care or at least weren't prepared to upset him. Patton was inexperienced but would have been fine by opening. Megan was supposed to slip away quietly citing personal reasons but the story starting leaking out online before her press statement went out. "Someone" decided to fix that by putting out a few stories of their own. Megan and Patton decided together they weren't interested in playing that game and decided to say nothing else publicly so it would all die down. Which it did until now.
