Him was just wondering if anyone has seen Mel B in Rent, and how is she in it?
She has done a lot of presenting and acting here in the UK and has never been anything special, so was just wondering how she was standing up on Broadway?

Read the reviews in compulsivebowlers.com . She's a disgrace. Can't hit the notes, can't cover her accent. Her acting is deemed halfway decent by some people, but overall, terrible.
But I think Namo summed it up quite well.

"She is supposedly REALLY good."
When in reality, she is REALLY bad.

I saw her twice, that was two times more that i would have liked. She is hoarse constantly. After she sings "Take Me Out" (does a half - well less than half- way decent job on that song) she completely looses her voice and Another Day gets ruined. When she is singing, it sounds like she is worried that her accent will show and holds back - but it comes out anyway so i dont know why she tries.
I will say one thing on her behalf - She improved immensely between the first and second time i saw her. (about 2 months in between) So she is trying, I also met her at the stage door and she was very sweet and signed anything for people - some had alot of things too - and took pictures. Still doesnt make her good in the role though.

I believe Namo was being sarcastic.

I really liked Krysten Cummings as well. She seemed really vulnerable on stage, which I liked.

Posted: 7/30/04 at 11:40pmI just saw her Monday night and she is AWFUL! She doesn;t even attempt to hide her British accent but the funniest thing is she runs away from Roger with her arms up for protection everytime he comes near her like he's going to beat her or something! Its hysterical. But she needs to leave. Now.

Posted: 7/31/04 at 12:18amithought she was ok. i thought she was better the carmine and lorraine valdez. but not even close to drv. i kinda liked the horse raspy voice. i think it might have been cause i haven't seen rent in 2 years and i just missed seeing such an awesome show.

Posted: 7/31/04 at 1:09pmHer hoarse chesty voice actually works for the low-key numbers but when she tries to belt it's a disaster. Eight shows a week -or however many she does - is way too much for her fragile vocal chords.

Posted: 7/31/04 at 2:22pmI don't know what others thought, but I thought Out Tonight was her strong point in the show. I enjoyed it for the most part, except the quiet part, and whenever she went up on "out." Her dancing was also just fine. Nothing different than what I've seen from past actresses. Hope that helped!
