re: Memorable Closing Numbers

The closing number of the last revival of MUSIC MAN was impressive.
" ...the happiness in the tune convinces me that I'm not afraid."

re: Memorable Closing Numbers

I Feel So Much Spring- A NEW BRAIN

mediocre show by Finn's standards, best final song he's written

"The last train out of any station will not be full of nice guys." - Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

"I wash my face, then drink beer, then I weep. Say a prayer and induce insincere self-abuse, till I'm fast asleep"- In Trousers

Taryn,

"Being Alive" Yes!!!

Watching Robert FINALLY maturing and accepting what relationships are all about in just one song.

By the way, that was Sondheim's THIRD attempt to write a song for that spot in COMPANY! :)
"I say YOU'RE the CUTEST one. No, I say YOU'RE the CUTEST One. And we go on like that from dawn to three."

Cabaret. I know it wasn't extravagant, but that's what made it all the more memorable... the... the shock, I guess.

"Rose's Turn" - GYPSY

Hands down. It's like a one-act play where character goes on major "ventafon" and almost loses control in the process.

Requires superior singing AND acting.
"I say YOU'RE the CUTEST one. No, I say YOU'RE the CUTEST One. And we go on like that from dawn to three."

re: Memorable Closing Numbers

I really like Rent's. Not the song so much as the curtain call. Its great how the whole cast comes together to celebrate life, and then Angel comes in. Brought a tear to my eye, actually.

Going by the CD, I'd have to say Hairspray. Every morning since I got the CD last week I listen to You Can't Stop the Beat, and I'm instantly in a better mood. What better way to end a show?

A CHORUS LINE
42ND STREET (revival)
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day that says, "I will try again tomorrow."

re: Memorable Closing Numbers

"I say YOU'RE the CUTEST one. No, I say YOU'RE the CUTEST One. And we go on like that from dawn to three."

re: Memorable Closing Numbers

don't take this the wrong way but it's very telling the age range of posters on this board, because the majority doesn't mention any shows past, say, last year?

re: Memorable Closing Numbers

Caroline or Change
Follies
Passion
Sweeney Todd
Sunday in the Park with George
Parade
A New Brain
Into the Woods

Yeah, most of them are Sondheim, but what can I say? He writes some damn good finales.

re: Memorable Closing Numbers

cabaret- just because it was so gut wrenching - different for musical theater - you always left that show feeling like you'd been kicked in the stomach
"Nothing is an accident, We are free to have it all, We are what we want to be, It's in ourselves to rise or fall!!" - "Fortune Favors the Brave" from Aida - the love that never died
