Wicked still is the hottest show even without Idina.. it is still selling out and doing over 1.2 million every week, even in the dead of winter. Idina and Kristin didnt draw that many people to Wicked, "So much happened before dorthy dropped in" did and the wizard of oz factor.
Spamalot will take a little away from Wicked, but it is too completely different types of people for the shows.. Wicked = teens, Spamalot = adults even though I have my Spamalot tickets and am sooo excited.
Also, Wicked has a 15 million advance, maybe even 20 million.. you cant get a ticket for a long time, nonetheless two. It wont be up at TKTS for years.

my fav. line is
Glinda: It seems the artichoke is steamed

"Let the little girl go, and that poor little dog? Dodo." That's my favorite line in the whole show (Wicked). My next favorite line is "Oh! It seems the artichoke is steamed."

I opened this thread because I do like Wicked I just thought I would voice my opinion that it is getting to be a little much. Anywhoo, unfortunately, as much as it pains me to say this, outside of the theatre community not many people know Idina Menzel or Kristin Chenoweth. They get the tickets because it is a hot show. They couldn't care less who Idina or Kristin are.

"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel

I was talking to one of my friends from school and she was raving on and on about how good Wicked was and how awsome Elphaba was etc and when I asked her if she liked some of Idina's other works like RENT too (since Idina was in it) and she just gave me this puzzled look and said "Who's Idina and whats RENT? I'm talking about Wicked." Apparentaly she had heard all the songs off a burnt CD but never bothered to find out who played the characters.
I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart.

some of my favorite quotes:
1. What? what is it? Do I have something in my teeth? Ok, let's
get this over with: No, I'm not seasick, yes, I've always
been green, and no, I didn't chew grass as a child.
2. I don't make commotions, I am one.
3. Fiyero: I've been thinking-
Elphie" - yes, I heard

was it always nessa and boq saying the lemons and whatever oh my!? because i swear when i first saw it back in october, fiyero and glinda said that. i'm probably wrong but i remember my second time seeing it that i was confused they said it. I thought maybe it was a change.
all the lines are pretty funny, i can't really think of a specific one.

A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it,
but all she really dreams is to make someone
else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer.
And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

Nessarose: What's in this punch?
Boq:Melons,pears and berries.
Nessaros: Oh my!
I believe the line is: Lemons, and melons, and pears. So, it's like, you know, Lions, and tigers, and bears!

Some of my favorite lines from Wicked:
Galinda (trying to transform Elphaba's dress into a ballgown and not succeeding, looking at her wand): Is this thing on???? I think it needs a new battery!
Glinda: You still carry that dirty old thing around? (Elphaba's broom)
Elphaba: Well we can't all come and go by a bubble.
Glinda: Well I am a public figure, so people expect me to...
Elphaba: Lie??
Glinda: BE ENCOURAGING!!!

My favorite "Wicked" line:
DILLAMOND: Now, Miss...Glinda.
GALINDA: I's Galinda, with a "Ga".

benzy- I totally agree. Hairspray and Wicked are both two shows that attract families, and are good fun. I'm afraid, however excellent these two shows may be, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Spamalot will not take away too much. In the past year, Wicked has only had about 4 days of not selling out.

First of all, I want to say hi to everyone seeing as how I'm relatively new to the board, even though I've been a lurker for several months now. So.....hi!
Secondly, Broadwayguy2,
"Ladies and gentelmen of the audience, Idina Menzel fell through a trap door."
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Seriously, thanks for brightening my crappy day.
For those of you who are reading my response to Broadwayguy and are getting uptight, no, I am not picturing Idina falling through the trap door and LMAO. I don't think anyone here is that twisted, so lighten up a little. It was a serious situation, but the same way that Jon Stewart cracks jokes about the war in Iraq, what's wrong with Broadwayguy2 cracking jokes about Idina.
Also, Benzy92, though I admit that a lot of adults will be attending Spamalot, I know that a lot of teenagers will be seeing it as well. Just because Monty Python originally premiered to an older generation does not mean that the teens of today have not discovered the hilarity and genius of the men behind Monty Python. I know many teenagers, who usually could care less about Broadway, are so excited that their wetting themselves at the thought of being able to see Monty Python on stage.

Whatyouown,
"Spamalot" has sold out almost all of its preview period based on word of mouth only. It is the biggest hit since....."Wicked"! And, like "Wicked", it won't be on TKTS for a good long time. I already have tickets for March 16. A friend went to get tickets yesterday for a date in July, and the best he could do was front mezz, if that gives you any idea of how the show is doing.
Also, "DRS" is doing fine for a show that hasn't even started previews, either, and is expected by many to be this season's sleeper hit.

I know it's selling out, and I think it is going to do wonderfully in the box office. However, I don't think that drs is going to take away any ticket sales from Wicked. I hope I didn't make you misunderstand what I was trying to say.
