"Moxie, it's not like he's going to say to you who he's dating and other personal things when he just met you. "
Like I said, I didn't expect or even look for that. I was talking about the over all feeling I got when talking to him. He wasn't rude or cold...it just didn't feel like it came naturally, it felt like it was rehearsed. I'm comparing it to how the other guys were. Patrick Wilson is a bit more well known and established than Cerveris is. The interaction I had with him felt more natural.
That's kind of just the way Patrick is, though. I feel like when you meet these people, you have to be open to whatever they are, or whatever they give. Patrick is known for being very open, natural, confident, and comfortable around the people he meets with that "boy next door" sort of quality, and for being able to make them feel very welcomed and as though he's interested in them. It's a great quality, and I've definitely enjoyed meeting him the few times that I've had the opportunity to do so. Some people are just... better at it than others.
Sorry, Moxie it was an understanding.
How come last night you were gushing about how great he was in another thread, but now you're claiming he's cold and insincere? What changed in the last 12 hours?
i just got the feeling that he cares a lot about what people think of him or is overly concerned with his public persona.
I don't agree with this. If he were so concerned about what people think of him, there's no way he would come across as "phony" as you claim. He's a Tony-winning actor, for heaven's sake; I'm sure if he cared that much, he could make a much better effort at faking small talk.

I didn't say I thought he was cold. I actually specifically said that he wasn't cold in my last comment. Nor did I say that I didn't find him gracious or accomodating. He was. I was comparing his demeanor with the other actors there. It didn't feel relaxed, it felt forced. I didn't take it personally. I was saying that I didn't find him as sincere as the rest of the actors at the event. I'm thrilled to have met him. It was a kick. I just think he has a rehearsed demeanor with fans and that, to me, feels phony. I still think he's a great actor and still think he was nice when I approached him. It just didn't feel natural to me.
To put it simply...I felt like everyone else was so and so "the guy." With him it felt like Michael Cerveris "the actor."

Moxie, I think you are very wrong about Michael. Not because I adore him, but because I've spoken with him on many different terms, and he always comes across as more of a "fan" than an "actor". I would never refer to him as phony. In fact, if you read his travel journal, he is incredibly open and brutally honest about himself. I admire him in every way, and have nothing but the utmost respect for him. He's no saint, but he is very humble and loving.
I still wish I would have seen that movie with him and Adam... Emcee, do you remember anything about Michael's performance? Didn't he play the devil of some sorts?

No, Michael was God! Adam was the devil. I think.

LOL! Oh, even better! *kicks self for not knowing the fabulousness of Michael Cerveris at the time*
Right, Adam was the devil. I'm not sure WHAT Michael was. I don't think he was God, per se, but he was... in charge... of all the CGI animals? Who the hell knows?
I do, however, remember one thing very vividly. I went into that movie with a "I hate Michael Cerveris" chip on my shoulder because THE only thing I knew about him, in addition to having seen the "Under Pressure' video on his old website, was that he beat Raul for the Tony. I was mad for like, months. And I came out of the movie head over heels for Cerveris' voice.
Synonyms for cold- apathetic, indifferent, unenthusiastic, uninterested; aloof, detached, impersonal
That's what you described in your first post. Just because you didn't actually use the word "cold" doesn't mean it wasn't implied through your comments.

LOL! Oh, I can't even imagine.... Damn them for not selling a DVD of this for Broadway Cares!
Hee. Sometimes I re-read the Temptation thread for a good laugh!
Chrys - where can I find the travel journal?

All I remember is hearing about the bus revival song thingy where they all randomly broke out in song! *kicks self again*
And Keggs, it's on his Amazing-Journey website. Let me dig up the exact link for you. But I am warning you now, it is loooooong and very addicting.
Goodness, I've been to that website a hundred times! How on earth did I miss that?! Wait - that made me sound like a stalker...
Edit because I forgot to say "Thanks, Chrys!"

Most favorite quote ever: "It's the same kind of satisfaction, the same sense of accomplishment I felt opening on Broadway. Not look-at-me-aren't-I-cool-to-be-here, but I-made-it-from-the-crowd-to-the-stage-and-it-means-so-much-to-me. The watcher watched is still the watcher." I think THAT says everything about who he is.
I'm addicted already. =)

I guess I should also warn you that it ends qute abruptly. He had his last few posts taken down, and I've always been meaning to ask him what happened and why.
Love the "Kum & Go" picture...

Bumping because I just discovered Michael has two new songs up on his bands myspace page. If you are used to Dog Eared, they are slightly more popish, and his vocal tone is a bit more in your face. The lyrics are still wonderfully toungue in cheek. I am ha-ppy.

The myspace page? Maybe I'm dense, but I can't find it; I just see the amazing-journey link.
