It seemed pretty up close to me, and I think it would've been amazing to take it in so close. I was in the fourth row and I could make out the facial expressions, so I can only imagine how much more intimate it'd be in AA. But I didn't sit in those seats, so I'm not sure about the neck craning. Sorry! I'm sure you'll have a great experience.

i sat in BB last wednesday and it's insanely close. when the curtain went up, i first thought it might be uncomfortably close, but it's really not. it's an awesome experience to be that close!

and definitley check out the characters who are not the featured character during certain songs...the way they stare out at the audience is downright creepy, especially when they catch your eye!

That thread kind of answers the seat question.

Does anyone have Michael's album Dog Eared? I know they sell it at the theatre, and I am considering getting it.

Saw him in Assassins and Sweeney Todd 6 times. He is a terrific performer and a true actor. His transformation into Booth onstage was just great and his Tony was well earned! AND he loves dogs!

Glad you had enjoyed it, Moxie. re: Michael Cerveris Appreciation Thread

wonderfulwizard - I love Dog Eared. Great melodies and some of the songs are so moving. The album overall is such a great display of his talent - it's amazing that the man who transforms into Sweeney every night is the same one who wrote and sings on that album.

Sweeney Todd was unbelievable. I swear to God, from the moment that curtain went up, my jaw was on the floor. I had the same giddy, excited feeling I had in ninth grade when I sat in the front row of my music class and watched the 1979 version on TV.

I love character driven pieces and this is easily one of the best of that kind that I've ever seen. First, the actors are also the orchestra. Second, the set design was really minimal. There's no "fourth wall" so to speak. Usually when you go to a play you see the orchestra playing and you're reminded that this is fiction, a play. But without them there and without ornate sets you're forced to focus solely on the action on the stage.

I was literally underneath Michael Cerveris the whole time. No, not like that. (Unfortunately.) My seat was literally a foot or two from the stage. Cerveris is so primal in his portrayal of Sweeney Todd and his diction and elocution is so precise that he spits when he speaks. Every consonant, every vowel...clear as a bell. The guy is just....so incredible in the role. You immediately sympathize for him even though you know he's up to no good.

As I predicted, I cried when Not When I'm Around Came On. I turned my head away from the stage and ended up catching eyes with Michael Cerveris. Exuse me while I fangirl...hee!

So glad you enjoyed the show Moxie. Can't wait to see it again in five days -- but who's counting?

Happy 4th!

I was totally going to stage door until I saw one girl carrying a rather large bouquet of red roses. I went outside and made a call and saw that the whole iron gate was surrounded by people half my age. That's not a slight against the younger fans. I say that because it just made me feel like I was way too old to be gushing over them.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Moxie. I know that DLC is on vacation this week. Did Jessica or Elisa go an as Pirelli?

mijofly19- I think Jessica goes on as Pirelli, and Elisa plays the accordian and keyboard parts Pirelli plays. Elisa isn't listed as a Pirelli understudy.

though how did Jessica do as Pirelli. I'm seeing the show this week and was wondering.

I was at the show last night, too, and thought Jessica was fantastic as Pirelli. It was a bit odd to see her without the accordian - wonderfulwizard's right, Elisa sat stage right and played accordian as well as keyboard - but it didn't make a difference in the performance. Jessica's portrayal is great and her vocals are strong. She does play flute, too.

When Elisa or another understudy plays an instrument but not a part, do they still act as if they are mental patients?

Elisa was part of the visual tableau, I believe, wearing the white lab coat with her hair pulled back like Donna Lynne/Jessica's (as opposed to when Elisa goes on as Johanna and her hair is down).

I just had to add my love for Mr. Cerveris!!! I thought he was so incredible in "Sweeney"...I agree with everything that BlueRoses said about his performance/hotness. And so humble!! I've been fangirling so much since seeing the show (last week), that I'm currently getting up the nerve to write him a little letter (I've never done that before, so I feel sort of silly, but I gotta!). Seeing him performing live made me mourn even more deeply for my lost TiVo of the Lincoln Center "Passion"--I didn't even get to watch half of it when it suddenly was lost!!

But yeah...gotta love the Cerveris. And I'm a little shocked there isn't some more love for him here...

I'm co-hosting Sunset & 42nd tomorrow. I plan on squeeing and fangirling about my Sweeney experience. Never has bald been so menacing and so sexy.

i'd just like to point out...

i saw "the mexican" in theatres, i own the dvd (mainly because i adore julia roberts), and until the last time i watched it, i definitley didn't realize that it was michael playing frank the postal worker! i just never paid attention that closely! i love the scene when they're in the hotel room dancing and now that i've realized that it's him, it's even funnier!

ahh, i just love him re: Michael Cerveris Appreciation Thread

Oh, Katecab, as a fan of Michael's theatre work, that is a funny, funny scene to watch! On the flipside, the extended scene with the real Leroy (?) after Frank comes out of the shower, that's a great scene. Michael's as versatile on film as he is on stage.

Nothing takes the place of the Passion clip on Youtube where he's performing Trio with Audra & Patti.

In the beginning of the clip, when his character has arrived home from war to have a tryst with his lover, he starts to undress. He takes his jacket off and has the most...naughty/dirty boy...look on his face.

Awww yeah...you TAKE that jacket off, Michael.

Moxie: Hear, hear.

Gah...I wish I had the whole flippin' thing! That clip, however...hell's yeah.

And now I need to rent "The Mexican" :)
