We'll see if it actually happens this time!

I dunno. Is he a particularly visionary director? Guys & Dolls works (on stage or screen) because it's highly stylized. It doesn't have to be the same style as previous incarnations, but it needs a bold stroke and a vision behind it. The dialogue and characters are written that way already. The 1990s revival had a wonderful style very different from the original stage production. The original film adaptation is terrible in my opinion with one or two minor exceptions. It just didn't work.

I hope, if they're going to attempt it this time, they get it right.

I'd be happy with the male leads mentioned in the link, Channing Tatum and Jospeh Gordon-Levitt.  My choices for the female leads would be Anne Hathaway as Sarah and Scarlett Johansson as Adelaide.

Rumor has it that the new script is set in the 30's of Damon Runyan's original stories, and is a much darker grittier take on the material. All of which would make me all the more eager to see it.

A darker grittier tone goes against Damon Runyon's style and tone. It will make the characters all look like naive imbeciles who don't know anything but cartoon English.

Darker?

Grittier?

Set in the Thirties?

Have we learned nothing from Des McAnuff's ambitious pile of ****e?

One of the best things about the stage show is how ambivalent it is about when it is set. Anachronistic elements of Old New York butt up against each other madly, regardless of the fact that they don't necessarily make sense together. Try to establish 1950s or 1930s too distinctly and something, if not everything, will feel out of place.

Interesting. I've been hearing about this for years though. I wonder if it will ever happen.

I just hope they don't cast it with the fresh-faced flavors of the month. With the possible exception of the Mission Doll, all the other principals are street-wise, have been around the block at least a few times and could easily be in their 40s. After all, Nathan and Adelaide have been engaged, what, 14 years?

Hint:  Hugh Jackman as Sky, please.

The rumors of Gordon-Levitt and Tatum are fantastic, and I would LOVE to see Lady Gaga as Adelaide.

Gaga played it in high school, I don't see why she couldn't play it again! Seconded.

What are the chances he uses some of his West End cast? Wouldn't mind me done Ewan McGregor, and who wouldn't want Jane Krakowski?

Would love to see Krakowski repeat her role as Miss Adelaide. And she's the right age too. As to why bother remaking it? Why not? I was never fond of the original. I always thought Sinatra should've played Sky if just for his singing abilities. I do like the casting of Hathaway as Sister Sarah. Though she was impressive in LES MISERABLE, her singing many years ago in Encore's CARNIVAL was just wonderful. Her voice and tone had such a pureness and clarity to it. I'd love to hear her sing the Loesser score. I think she'd be ideal in the role. And she looks the part too.

I hope this happens because I love the show and would enjoy seeing another film version of it, but in truth, I think if it does happen it would likely be a box office bust. Maybe they can do it for a small budget, but GUYS AND DOLLS just doesn't seem at all the kind of thing that mainstream film audiences today would go for, unless it had a really A list director attached.  It actually seems to be me that in the current climate, the weight of the director and the property seem to have more pulling power at the box office than any film stars.   Certainly, I can't really think of any A list actors even who could guarantee box office for GUYS AND DOLLS.
