Curtain, your last comment was really rude. He is performing one of the most demading male roles on Broadway, give him a break.
Dominic Nolfi was on for John last night.

Nobody has answered my question. Up to the last week or so, has JLY really missed all that much?
TennesseeTwang, I'll try to answer your question.
I asked Michael Longoria how many times he's been doing the role. He said about 13 or 14 times.
So since October, one of Mr. Young's understudies has only been on about 14 times. That's pretty good.

I am SOOOO not entering the arguement, but Michael said that HE had been on about 14 times. Michael isn't the only Frankie cover in the show.
Right. But he seems to go on the most. Even if you split the role between the understudies, it's still a pretty good record.

I assume that includes the one extra day off each week that he's allowed but doesn't always take.
And I know that ML isn't the only guy to understudy the role and that the total number is higher than 14.
But even if JLY has been off say, 20 times during this run, that's still not much considering his work load.

I think that Michael just gets the most notice from people for going on.. which I LOVE.
I'd really like to see Dominic do the role.

I edited my post. Tina doesn't need to go anywhere near the Jersey Boys. They'd eat her alive or vice versa! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
When there are understudies and not a "cover",
they usually split the absences, making the number of missed performances near 30 which for a show that has been running only a little over 7 monthhs a pretty poor record.
I don't completely blame the actor, but also the producers who have worked these BOYS to Death.
But also remember Cerveris is playing a Pretty demanding Show himself and doing Monday Night Concerts and has not missed a show yet.
That's not Rude, just a fact.

Looks like entrance into the argument to me. You fed information to it, you entered it. Seriously, that's like saying "no offense!" before you say something offensive as if it'll get you off the hook. Totally contradictory.

When will you stop making this about how much more you love Cerveris than you do JLY? You just said that it's not entirely the actor's fault, because the producers have been working them to death -- which I take it is not in the same way the case with Sweeney, even though there are day-off appearances in the like. For God's sake, stick to one story and stop beating the dead horse already. You just "state a fact," and think no one will see through the "fact" to the bite beneath it. We get it. Cerveris is God and JLY is lazy, he didn't deserve the Tony, blah blah blah.

Do we think Michael will take over the role when JLY departs for TV?

As a paying customer, we are not required to give anyone a break!
Michael is wonderful, but when an actor wins the Tony Award, we would like to see them perform the role?
Why is the desire, and our comments upon JLY missing the show a problem.
Much more information blasting LaChanze and JLY for letting down countless audience members and the entire Broadway Community will be forth coming.

If the star is billed above title, it means you are coming to see the show for that star. If the star is under the title, it means you are coming to the show for the title. So unless LaChanze or JLY appear above the title, you're getting exactly what you paid for, THE COLOR PURPLE or JERSEY BOYS. Period.
And don't be fooled: CurtainPullDowner is more concerned with building up his crush and fantasizing about shirtlessness on these boards than he is with one actor's absenteeism.

Evidently, you are holding to some elite opinion held by relics and tired trolls in the theater world. The producers permit you to return for a different performance if either JLY or LChanze are not there.
This is a statement: these are the stars of the show, and if they want to remain stars, they will honor their commitments to the producers and to the audience.
The Producers acknowledge their stars, why won't you?
There's a very big difference between expressing disappointment in not seeing a favorite performer (which there's nothing wrong with) and continually bashing one by using another.

What are you, a Broadway oracle?
I think the logic here is terribly skewed. Yes, you are a paying customer, but you cannot use that excuse until you can prove that these people are not missing the shows for legitimate reasons. Would you rather pay your money to see them and have them perform sick -- therefore giving you a performance of lesser quality and endangering their own health? That's completely self righteous and entitled. If you can prove that the performances are missed out of laziness, rather than just assuming so because you're pissed off, then you can go on about it. You're not buying a robot, you're talking about real people, who deserve breaks just as much as anyone else would from their job if they needed to. Yes, there is a point at which it's excessive, and yes, I'm sure there are those who do abuse the system, but "disappointed fans" are becoming far too accusatory and insensitive. That is a problem.
If you want a guarantee that someone will play a certain part when and where you want it, no problems to be had, watch a movie. You're dealing with real people in live theater, not images on a screen that will stop and start and be there for you at will. People will get sick, things will happen. Things that are out of individual control and not all about entitled fans who severely need to get over themselves.
If they want to remain stars, they won't ever get sick? Please.

*claps* Well said Emcee!
First of all, I started this post. I know what I had in mind.
Secondly, it is an open secret on Broadway that neither LaChanze or JLY plan on playing their shows.
What happened to announced absences?
And again, no one forced any of these so-called professionals to take a role, have it announced that they will be there, and then refuse to play the shows.
These absences hurt Broadway, and make it even more difficult for productions to make it to the boards.
I am ashamed that people would defend these so-called stars after repeated offenses of missing shows.
