Michael R. Jackson’s TEETH in development for film adaptation

At the Center for Fiction tonight, MRJ & Anna K. Jacobs confirmed with the moderator that there is indeed a musical film adaptation of TEETH in the works at this time, though they were not able to specify how far along in the pre-production process it was.

(They also plugged the upcoming non-replica production that Raja Feather Kelly is directly in Asbury Park, NJ this fall - https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/aptheaterco/teeth-a-new-musical#/)

The original movie is a cult classic. This seems like the natural progression. I'm sure this will be just as low budget as it's predecessor - and maybe more fun.

If the attendance at the event last night is an indication, the show already has its own growing cult following for sure.

I discovered workshop clips of this show right after A Strange Loop came out, and have been fascinated with it ever since. I even bought the published libretto that just came out, something I rarely do with shows this new. I love how daring Jackson and Jacobs were with the adaptation. They went in a really different direction than the movie and made it their own thing, something I wish more movie-to-musical adaptations would do.

According to MRJ, the original writer was involved throughout the process via workshops and samples, but pretty much let them have free reign to use the material as they saw fit because he would not have known how to make it sing, and also he found it weird that people wanted to musicalize the story in the first place.

As with all announcements like this, I will hold my excitement for when it actually starts production. How many movie musicals over the years now have we been told are in development?

"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."

Agreed. They were very tight lipped about it, but it was cool to hear it from people actually involved in the process.
