Why couldn't he have left before Ft. Lauderdale. Michael York has never been a stage actor - he's not very good. Plus, he should be playing Pelinore - not Arthur - he is toooo Old.
Sorry to pass along bad news, but from what I know, The divine Ms. York will not be continuing her contract once the tour starts up again. Hopefully she will be headed back to broadway

Is there a website that lists the dates/cities for Camelot?
Thanks in advance!

Camelot Tour Route

The Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville (www.tpac.org) sent a letter to all of the season subscribers announcing the change in casting. I appreciated their consideration. I am disappointed to hear that James Barbour is leaving the production. I enjoyed him in Jane Eyre.
I just came back from the show, the 1st act was an hour and a half, and it felt like an eternity. The show has a few cute elements, Rachel York is fabulous as usual and Michael York is good enough, I guess, he can't sing, but we all know he got the gig because of his star status, his acting was decent I thought, but the evening, was an evening to forget...

New leads have been announced to join Lou Diamond Phillips: Matt Bogart as Lancelot and Rachel de Benedet as Guenevere.

That sounds like interesting casting...Matt Bogart is fabulous!!
I am bummed that I won't get to see Rachel York, but I am now looking forward to seeing Lou Diamond Phillips and Matt Bogart. I've always wanted to see Matt in something and now I'll be able to so it's not a horrible trade off.
Paper Mill's Camelot back in 2003(?) was really a winner. He and Brent Barrett were a great match. So this should be no problem for Matt, who hopefully will be a better actor than Barbour, imo. Personally, I've enjoyed Lou Diamond Phillips stage work. But my opinion of this Camelot remains the same. It needs work!
Here's an bit from the Bogart interview:
We talked about his role as Lancelot in Camelot at the Paper Mill Theater in Millburn, NJ, where Matt had a great experience working with one of his favorite actors, Brent Barrett, who he enjoys listening to and has looked up to. He also had a great experience playing Billy Bigelow in Carousel at the Paper Mill a few years prior to Camelot. But this was Matt’s first real shot at doing Lancelot and it was fun- a very broad and classic version of the show.

Well Rachel York is of course irreplacable, but if someone had to do it, Rachel de Benedet is a great choice! She'll be great. I'm liking this Guinevere-DRS connection on the Camelot tour

WRQ,
There's a Kiss Me, Kate connection, too. Rachel de Benedet played Lilli/Kate at the North Shore Music Theatre about three years ago, and she got great reviews.
Funny, first two Yorks, now another Rachel. As you said, not THE Rachel, but a worthy successor.

I just got back from a matinee performance at Wolf Trap. Those of you who will not see Michael York in the show in the fall should be grateful. Words cannot express his mugging, lack of singing, and general lack of getting the character.
Rachel York on the other hand was brilliant. Give this girl another starring role on Broadway. James Barbour was quite excellent when he sang.
Its an enjoyable show if you can block out King Arthur and Lancelot's acting. I am generally not a fan of this type of show but I have to admit is is a very well constructed one. It may have been even more enjoyable for me if I did not have to see at the worst theatrical venue known to man with some of the most annoying patrons.
But, I was glad I went for Rachel York (which truthfully is why I went anyway).

KCfan,
Thanks for posting! Your reaction seems pretty close to what mine was when I saw it early in the run. Can't believe MY hasn't gotten any better.
I wish we were producers who could get the female York of the cast back on Broadway ASAP. It's really too bad her performance as Guenevere won't be seen in NYC.
Funny you should comment on the annoying patrons. I spotted a thread on ATC about the Washington Post critic being very irritated by a little kid who kept slamming the empty chair next to him and saying how bored he was. The mother apparently did nothing to quiet him or remove him, so everyone around him had to put up with the distraction.
Do lots of people picnic on the lawn during the show? Do they talk during it? I can't imagine 6000 people watching a fully staged musical outdoors. Sounds like a nightmare.

Actually, though I usually end up sitting near obnoxious children, this time I had the privilege of sitting next to obnoxious parents. The kid could not have been more than 10 and the parents were trying to explain it to her. At one point, she politely said, "Mommy, I know what is going on. I am trying to watch the show." After that (and some glaring looks from me), the parents shut up though were obviously bored.
A lot of people picnic at wolf trap, but the lawn was very empty for this performance as was the rear "in door" seating. Usually food is not allowed "in doors" but the ushers did not seem to care at this performance. Although, it was better than being on the lawn. Having done the lawn thing for a Gypsy Kings concert due to going with people who wanted that, I will never do it again.
Unfortunately, around here Wolf Trap gets the most varied summer tours.

Wow. Good for the little girl for being a better audience member than her parents!
I guess it makes sense that the lawn and rear seats would be empty for a musical. I would imagine it would be tough to see much from that far back. Wolf Trap sounds a lot like Tanglewood.
